i think its pretty understood these days that its going to be a diamond ring. the styles aren't usually the most original though- its either the solitaire or the three stone ring- not that there is anything wrong with those, they're just pretty common- but yeah, diamonds are It. size depends on budget, and also i guess quality depends on how aware people are of the 4 C's but thats not an exclusively pakistani thing.
it also depends on how close you are to your fiance- for instance, my bro's g/f has been very vocal about what she wants- big and sparkly- she's not so bothered with the details but again, that's not an exclusively Pakistani thing either.
oh but i do think that if the family is buying it, chances are it might not be an only diamond ring- there might be rubies, emeralds, or sapphires in there also.
