SGC - any suggestions for equally inventive favours for the guys? I’m doing the seeded paper butterflies presented as I already stated (found these mini terracotta flower pots which I will fill with compost instead of plastic cups)

Alright hun, you don’t need to get your panties twisted. Not everyone knows this. if the poster already knows then call it a welcoming party or something NOT haqeeqah!

I guess there’s no reason why the guys couldn’t have the same favors, but I know that none of the men attending are particularly green fingered and I would ideally like to have a different favor for them anyway. It’s not the end of the world if they don’t get anything different though.

I didn’t know there’s a difference between an aqeeqah and the party…so what happens on teh actual aqeeqah if teh party is held later on?

Aqeeqah is the sacrificing of the goat/lamb. This happens within the first week of the childs birth. It is sunnah.
The aqeeqah party is just a party to celebrate the newborn baby.

I guess I should call it something else as there are bound to be people who have issues with the whole ‘party’ aspect of the aqeeqah…but that’s a whole other thread.

The correct term is “valima”. It is sunnat to invite people to celebrate:
- Marriage
- Hajj
- Aqeeqah
The term valima has been co-opted for the post-marriage party, but it applies for all of these gatherings.

Because you get sawaab for inviting people for a valima to celebrate/recognize these events, I’ve heard of adults hosting a valima for their aeeqah in adulthood in the event their parents didn’t arrange one when they were children.
