Appearance

Re: Appearance

"Yeh mat dekho kaun keh raha hai, yeh dekho **kya **keh raha hai"....Hazrat Ali

Re: Appearance

^ thats for a different situation.

A person who has principles, and beliefs that he abides by...he will show it in his appearance too.

THe Prophet pbuh didn't just preach healthy eating, kindness to people, staying fit...etc he showed it in his daily life.

You see the value in a person's words, when he values it himself.

Re: Appearance

If the appearance wasnt much of importance then why did our beloved scholar Shiekh Hamza Yusuf trim his beard down after the 7/11 attacks. He knew appearance has a great effect on people no wonder he then became one of the advisors to Bush.

Re: Appearance

LOL, dude you know that is absurd.

Re: Appearance

hw is it absurd, although the beard is sunnah but sacrefising it can bring betterment for our religion, so i suppose he used hikmah which many people dont posses or are unable to understand because simply they cant see that far

Re: Appearance

Can I read this at a reputable source?

Re: Appearance

for these things sources arent used. Its the indepth vision and the ijtehaad of the Scholars. The general public would not understand. Its Hikmah wisdom, comes after studying Islam for years. Shirkh Hamza Yusuf spent 10 years studying Islam in mauritania and other countries, read his bio. Also Shaykh Tahirul Qadri.

Re: Appearance

Bro, I know Shaykh Hamzah Yusuf's bio/bg.

I just want to know where you got the info of him trimming his beard just because of the 9/11 attacks?

Re: Appearance

Well firstly havent you noticed, and secondly Faud Nahidi, the orginzer of Muhabba limited came to mu school and he talked about this tpopic quoting Hamza Yusuf

Re: Appearance

that is SO absurd...jeez, its contradictory to everything he preaches, and defends. Its not just about "noticing" it...its about getting it from a reliable source!

Re: Appearance

Its easier to put on a beard, or a hijab than actually change your personality, way of thinking, behavior, instincts.

Its even easier to read prayers 5 times a day than it is to become a better person.

Re: Appearance

Careful bro, nafs is a four-letter word to some people here...

(sorry, just stirring up an old debate...couldn't resist).

I agree, though...it seems that those who don't frequent the mosque or know a Mullah seem to have these impressions...or perhaps I just happen to go to good ones...

Re: Appearance

^ I've never heard a imam EVER say , "Keep a beard" to his people in the masjid...they're always preaching about rectifying your imaan from inside first.

Re: Appearance

My cousin had a gathering arranged by his parents for memorizing the Quran. A few people spoke for him and gave lectures. The maulana he role modeled also gave a lecture and in the end singled out my cousin and asked him if he has trimmed/shaved his beard. He goes on to say hafiz should have long beards and shouldn't shave their beards.

Since my cousin's still quite young, most of us laughed at it and let it go. However, I'm not sure how exactly my cousin felt about the maulana's comments in front of 100 people or so.

Although I'm not the best Muslim, but I agree with you.

Re: Appearance

a lil experience with me..id like to share, personally..the moment i kept my 'beard'...my friends wont even ask me to go to a movie with them...they think im all 'that maulvish type'.

Its kinda good for me when I think about it, they dont ask me to go somewhere sinful anymore...saves me from someting atleast.

Re: Appearance

Thats the barkat of Beard, keeps you away from sins.
