Re: Anyone else trying to conceive?.. Willing to share your tips, experiences etc?

General statistics may give you an idea of how long it will take. Normally fertile couples have a 20 to 30 per cent chance of getting pregnant each cycle. About 84 per cent of couples in the general population will conceive within one year if they have unprotected, regular sex, and half of the remainder will conceive naturally within the following year, if they keep trying. This means that while some couples will get pregnant in the first month of trying, for other couples it may take at a couple of years before they conceive. Even then, some healthy couples can take even longer to get pregnant.

There are also known factors that can impact on your fertility. Factors such as:

• your age, your diet and yourlifestyle

• Your partner’s age, his diet, his lifestyle and his occupation

chronic illnesses

• poor reproductive health

• how regularly you have intercourse.

Some women believe that they can increase their likelihood of getting pregnant sooner by learning to pinpoint exactly when they ovulate. However, fertility experts advise against using techniques to detect ovulation and then timing your sex life to a few specific days each cycle. Taking this approach is emotionally stressful and does not improve your chances of conceiving. It is much better to have sex every few days then there will always be a supply of sperm in the right place whenever you ovulate. Taking it easy and enjoying your love life may be the key to boosting your chances.
