Ali Azmat just had a concert in Hayward, CA on May 20th. His band’s lead guitarist is Omran Shafique of Mauj now.

For years I’d been writing songs just for Ali (Azmat) to put his voice to. In 2000, when Ali refused to do a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan cover song on stage in Japan because he didn’t believe in Nusrat’s ideology, I realised I’d been on board with someone who didn’t understand where my inspirations were coming from. Then I moved countries and Ali went to promote his solo album in India. Infiniti was such a deep part of me I decided to put myself in front of the gun! (laughs) It was scary and exhilarating. I had jumped off a cliff, letting the wind carry me. I could nosedive… or I would fly into Infiniti…
