Most of the pro-USSR countries never turned during the Afghan War. Syria, Iraq, Libya… they were all opposed to the kind of Islamists who were leading the Afghan War. Only Egypt turned away, before the Afghan war, because part of their peace treaty with Israel was that they would be allowed to buy and receive US weapons and training (and funding).
Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries were in the pro-West camp through the Cold War and it was they who provided the arab support for the Afghans. These were countries that never had particularly bad experiences in dealing with the West except over the issue of Israel.
