BAGHDAD, October 21 - Scores of angry Iraqi employees broke out in rage Tuesday, October 21, after a U.S. soldier hurled a copy of the holy Qur’an to the ground.

The U.S. desecration started after a veiled Iraqi woman refused to let U.S. occupation soldiers use a sniff dog to search her bag because it contained a copy of the Qur’an, furious demonstrators told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

“Amal Karim asked them not to let the dog touch her bag because there was a Qur’an inside,” oil ministry employee Zainab Assem Assem told AFP, adding a U.S. soldier threw the copy to the ground.

“Amal started shouting: ‘Can you (Iraqis) let American soldiers desecrate our holy Qur’an?’ And the crowd was steaming with anger,” she added.

The demonstrators demanded that U.S. troops leave and be replaced by Iraqi police.

“We will demonstrate every morning until the soldiers leave the entrance to the ministry,” said Mohammad Assem, adding that U.S. soldiers fired shots in the air to disperse the irked crowd.

“Even Saddam did not behave in this manner,” said Jassem in reference to ousted dictator Saddam Hussein. “Their attitude is unacceptable,” he said.

Iraqi traditions also refuse the inspection of women by men or touching their bodies or clothes by dogs, whether they were police or ordinary dogs.

Muslims consider dogs to be an unclean animal, and the use of dogs in searches has caused numerous incidents in Iraq.

In June, an angry Iraqi crowd killed six British soldiers who were using dogs in searches in Amara, 365 kilometers (230 miles) southeast of Baghdad.

Two months ago, the U.S. army decided to scale down its raids on Iraqis and house-to-house searches, admitting that this “iron-fisted” approach has proved counterproductive and alienated the people of
Iraq.

Yes and the big dog Bush is no different than the American dogs who desecrate the holy koran in Iraq!

These GI Joes must either be arrogant beyond belief or must have the intelligence of a pea pod, what they expect if you desecrate Holy Koran don’t expect flowers expect bullets very soon!

I can respect that better if there are some suggestions about what alternative methods exist to check for explosives?

The humiliation of muslims continues during the blessed month of ramadhan and will continue until we as a muslim ummah return back to ruling according to the Quran and Sunnah. It is very easy for us as muslims to get angry over this incident and curse the americans for their wicked actions, but what we fail to realise is that we have the Quran in our homes and we wrap it nicely and put it on the top shelf and only read it during ramadhan or when someone dies. It is we who have abandoned and insulted the Quran by allowing our lands to be ruled according to man made ideologies like capitalism instead of according to Quran and Sunnah, and until we do so the humiliation of muslims and Allahs deen will continue.

Ummm...you forgot to mention that EVEN during the month of Ramadan...there was NO cease-fire during the Iran-Iraq war...and NEITHER during the civil war in Afghansitan

Point is: muslims were STILL killing muslims during ramadan, so y the hell should americans do it any different....as they say people living in glass houses shudnt throw stones...

Ok. The soldier lost his head.

I can give good argument that the U.S. did not desecrate the Qur’an.

I would think a U.S. desecration would consist of legions of soldiers burning books.

On use of dogs…I didn’t know that was offensive.

Dogs are routinely used in the U.S. for search and seizure because of their uncanny sense of scent and hearing.

how many time GI Joe lose his head people can't keep making excuses for American Army they claim to be best trained and most disciplined i doubt that very much there are hundreds of examples where Americans act like cavemen against a civillian population

Ak47,

My point is that you can't take the action of one individual and call it U.S., as if this soldiers ugly behavior is demonstrative of the entire U.S. population.

Granted he should have held the ideals of the U.S. uppermost in mind, and considered what his behavior would insinuate but he didn't. He behaved badly.

Unfortunate how bad deeds can color the whole and are given greater attention than good deeds.

I am not highlighting one incident i am highlighting the continuing number of incidents of American army behaving terribly.

From Japan to Iraq why your army involved in crimes such as rape, murder and humiliation of civillians it not one off it continuous!

What kind of training do these people get that is why i don't consider them the best army sure they have the best weapons but the people behind the weapons are third rate in many peoples view!
