Re: angraisi
The answer is C.
Disney have never had a Cartoon snail. Any other cartoons are just not worth watching. Unless they'r Tom and Jerry.
Wizadora had worms not snails!

Re: angraisi
Abundance is an awkward word to use here. It implies there is always an "abundance", which is a relative term.
Try:
The population density of MBS varies between flowing and still waters.
Re: angraisi
ahum
I think its too hot in OHIO for you guys, go put your head in the fridge
and cool down.
Re: angraisi
I never miss a good snail discussion. I live for these moments.
Re: angraisi
LOL
is it because there are too many snails, or we dont lern from previous discussions.
Re: angraisi
Given a choice between a discussion on invertibrates and nuclear holocaust, I choose the slugs....
Actually I post on Gupshup, so I have already chosen slugs.... :)
Re: angraisi
LOL
we cant discuss, chem's or nuclear holocaust on this site, we will be banned and send to CUBA and not the nice part either
Re: angraisi

Re: angraisi
Thanks OG. - I realise the wording in all sounds kinda tried, the pop density does sound better - but will it fit if the sampling technique is not over a fixed area but rather random and counted. i.e. density pertains to how many molluscs in a specified space - with me I took samples across the edge of various enbankments - the only measure of space/lenght etc being my foot span.
Did you all know that when snails copopulate (pulmonates at least < the heamaphrodites) excuse spelling - one acts as the male and one as the female - when the same two meet again these roles change? Also nacre is comply calcium carbonate crystals laying horizontal rather than perpendicular.
O the joys of reading inaneness. Also the whirls on snails increase with a set pattern everytime and this is individual to every species and also dependent upon the first whorl (from whence the snail hatches). Snails have a circulatory system and a “true” heart that hs all valves facing in one direction - no backflow etc may occur. Indeed it is possible for a heart to beat up to once a second. They also have kydneys!!
The Moss Bladder snail itself has a life span of aproximately one year - its eggs are laid in April / May and it feeds mainly on algae.
I have aproximately 10% of this khoti done.
and this is just the stuff i DONT need to know ![]()
Re: angraisi
Hiccy,
I think Population Density still describes accurately what you are trying to express. "Abundance" is often used to express "a lot", and is a rather weak descriptor of the concept you are trying to describe. Short of scuba gear, or underwater cameras, it would be hard to measure the critters in situ over a broad square area. I would think that you would have to be more careful of other variables, such as the depth (or light penetration), and dissolved O2. For example, is it really the "still water", or simply the lack of O2 that is decreasing the density? Could a "flowing water" situation yield less poluation density if there were other factors influencing the populations, such as algeas depleating the O2? So long as your "sampling technique" is consistant, well described and reasonably statistically accurate, Population Density could be reasonably used subject to the limitations described in the technique.
Good luck, may I never have to think about this stuff again...
Re: angraisi
all taken into account! not to mention the CaCo3 count - which is important for shell building dont cha know - so thats important too.
Thanks for the help again. Population density it is. ![]()
