Perched on the edge of the Arabian Desert, Petra was the capital of the Nabataean kingdom of King Aretas IV (9 B.C. to A.D. 40).
Images of Petra always make me stop and think at how people lived there once, how they carved their homes out of the mountains. it reminds me of verses from the quran describing a city in which people made their homes out of mountains too.i have a rubbish memory so if anyone can enlighten me as to which city i am thinking of mentioned in the quran that’d be great lol
A great piece of architecture, it just makes me think that how hard it would have been to build something like this with out all the modern gadgets, the construction of this mosque apparently lasted for two centuries. It has been turned into a church again and some changes have been made to give it a church like look rather than a mosque but the caligraphy has been preserved and i just wonder if it is ever possible that the basic features of a church are preserved even after being converted into a mosque, for the sake of preserving some great work. Impossible.
