OG--Me lighten up? OG did you call us Islams too before you joined gs? Tsk tsk. And its not Moslems either, its Muslims thank you very much. Karachi hmm chances of survival. Yup. What comments you will hear? Something along the lines of "another gora". Nothing more nothing less. Fear isnt that common back there, people dont cower when they see an American :p
no MQ, my comments pre-gupshup were pretty tame, ragheads, towel heads, camel jockeys, you know, the usual! Other than during the Iran hostage taking, I can’t really even remember a discussion on Islam pre-9/11. It was just a non-issue. Not ignorant, just had not reason to think about Islam, nor discuss it. That is probably true with most Americans. They did not know enough to hate, Islam was just completely off their radar.
Hmm I see. I guess a really twisted way to look at it is that sept 11 gave people a reason to rid themselves of the ignorance and try to learn about each other.
However, the flip side is its all in a negative sense now, and what are the odds that it will ever have a positive outcome? Slim to none eh?
(ps you really should visit pakistan. You would be surprised at the people.)
I would not mind visiting Pakistan, particualrly the mountains. I have always found that no matter what the conflict, people on an individual level frequently get along better than as a group. I am sure I would be welcomed.
The need for Muslims to "understand them", or at least to pay attention to them is somewhat unique. 1.2 Billion Chinese people do not feel this need. Millions of Latinos are not calmoring for a greater understanding. 9/11 did not present opportunities for understanding. It brought out the worst in all of us.
^^^ …aww, well ok then (one must do as the men folk say!)
Mr Ohio, I was teasing…Im sure the mountain people will be very hospitable, they are the kind of people who share their last roti with you. If you do go, you’ll have a great time.
heres a site with pics of the kind of places you can see
