You are correct that the USA are involved with a lot for the better of this world.
I also accept that you have the impression that the USA only wants what is best for all whenever they get involved.
Unfortunately, the USA normally only gets involved when they have something to score or if, by not getting involved, they might lose/forfeit something.
The one thing that a lot of these other countries/people hate about the USA is it’s stance of “I know best for you”. Try this on the people around you and you will be surprised how quickly you run out of friends. Sometimes others want to try and sort out their own problems their own way without outside interference, even if it will cost them more in the longer run.
As for the USA trying to be the worlds policeman? The useless UN can’t do the job, the USA has the ability/means and knows that by doing it, they will further their own interests. Once when there were 2 superpowers, the USA were much less inclined to do what they want.
But, the USA has refused to sign treaties affecting the weather, neuclear/atomic issues, chemical warfare, biologically warfare, landmines, international legal institutions, etc, etc. That’s why the USA sparked in their absence during last years World Summit in South Africa. For the USA, it’s the USA first and formost, the others be damned - and other people are slowly becoming more resentful.
The Romans also had the same attitude when ruling the known civilised world. The British had the same attitude. Funny enough, it reach its peak just when the bubble start to burst. Sound unlikely for the USA? I tell you for starters that the dollar will not again be stronger than the Euro - mark my words.
BTW: My partner is presently in the USA with a green card and I don’t wish him or any well meaning citizen, like yourself, any hardship.
