Ure son cant just get it out of nowhere.... Its a genetic disease.... Either u must have it or ure husband. Get uteselves checked too.. I have thalassemia minor... My mom has it and so does my sis. My dad doesnt have it. Its not a major disease if its minor... Its only a worry if u have thalassemia major. And it looks highly unlikely that ure son would have it... It crops up very soon after birth, and things start ging downhill from there...ure son is nearly 5... No way hewould have made itsofar without medical help, had he had thalassemia major. Minor is another story but like i said... Its nothing to worry bout... Like i said.... I hVe it, so does my mom and sis and we are as healthy as can be... I even have a son and another on the way... So really.... It doesnt stop u in any way from leading a normal life. Just up his red meats and other iron enriched food... Inshallah all will be fine :)

Khawateen, I know it's genetic but niether I or my hubby have ever been tested. I'v been slightly anemic, almost all my life so I could be a minor. I'v never had my hubs HB levels tested, so I am not sure. I know it's very very unlikely that he'd make it this far without medical interventin, if Allah Forbid, he were a Th. Major, but there's still this tiny viny chance and it scares me. In addition, I got his complete blood count done a year or so back and that was normal, so I don't think with Thalassemia you can have a perfectly normal blood count.. but just the thought of it scares me.
Inshallah we'll be getting the results back tomorrow evening... so pls continue your duas. Jazakallah.

Ok I got the results this evening and have yet to show them to his ped. I am no expert but almost everything seems within the normal ranges, except one or two things which are off by very slight margins. SO for the most part I'm relieved as I don't think an Thalassemic major can have such normal, or almost normal blood count. Will meet the ped tomorrow inshallah.

Thanks for asking khawateen. He's fine alhamdolillah. We have put him on iron supplements and his vitamin D levels are pretty low too. The shot is supposed to be quite painful and if you give it orally it's not even half as effective as the shot, so the ped has left it to me to decide. I think I"m going with the oral. We can give it twice, maybe. I"ll have to ask the doc.
Another issue has come up too.. the iron supplements results in constipation.... ahhhh :) so lets see :P

Yup. If u take iron, u get constipation. So give him prune juice. Its great gor iron and constipation. Great to hear hw is well. Iron shots hurt if u dont massage the area really well after geting them.... Keep rubbing it for atleast 5 mins. But they r cery effective.
