Give Akmal bit of a time and i am sure he will become a GREAT keeper and batsman. Moin is still a better overall player than Latif ( Initially Latif was my fav and i never liked Moin but his performances changed my opinion). Similarly i never liked Akmal but i reckon he has talent to become one of our best.
Razzaq is overrated???I don’t think so. He has definitely delivered in last 5 years but probably not as much as he did in his first few years.
Have a look at this: Razzaq’s batting average break down by year:
1998 scored 93 runs at 13.29
1999 scored 367 at 30.58 27 wickets at 19.9
2000 scored 661 at 27.54 61 wickets at 22.46
2001 scored 384 at 24 20 wikcets at 35.45
2002 scored 675 at 35.53 33 wickets at 26.55
2003 scored 600 at 33.33 24 wickets at 36.0
2004 scored 642 at 42.67 18 wickets at 50.0
2005 scored 452 at 27 26 wickets at 32.69
Bowling breakdown by year
1998 8 wickets at 37.0 average
1999 27 wickets at 19.9
2000 61 wickets at 22.46
2001 20 wikcets at 35.45
2002 33 wickets at 26.55
2003 24 wickets at 36.0
2004 18 wickets at 50.0
2005 26 wickets at 32.69
Have a look at that, he used to be a bowling all rounder and had EXCELLENT bowling figures in 1999 and 2000 ( infact hewas the highest wicket taker in 2000) but lately his bowling is turning out to be pretty much useless but look at the ever improving batting average. His overall batting Strike rate is around 80.
Don’t really think he is overrated but he can certainly become one of the ebst ever ODI all rounders if he can concentrate a bit more.
I don't agree with Wasim Raja's inclusion over Abdul Razzaq. There is no doubt that Wasim raja was an exciting player but let's be fair, you can't include him over Razaq just on the basis of "old is gold" theory.
Wasim Raja's overall performance:
Batting average: 22.34 with highest score of 60 at a strike rate of 66.95
Took 21 wickets at 32.71 at a strike rate of 49.3
Abdul Razzaq's overall performance:
Batting average: 30 with highest score of 112 at a strike rate of 80
Took 221 wickets at 29.61 at a strike rate of 38.79
Forget Razzaq, i would prefer even Shahid Afridi over Wasim Raja any day.
Yohanna is definitely one of our best ever ODI player but he misses out because of a strong middle order ( He is certainly not better than Inzi, Zaheer Abbas or Javed Miandad)
Zaheer Abbas's batting average of 48 is 2nd only to Michael Bevan at a strike rate of 85, scored 7 centuries in 60 innings.
Asif Iqbal: Definitely has a good record but he only played 10 ODI's and you can't really include him in our best ever ODI lineup.
Mushtaq Mohammad: Only played 10 matches, poor average with Highest score of 55 and Sr of 59.21, never took a wicket in ODI. So he should be no way near our best ever ODI line up.
I see several names popping up in this thread, that can only be justified by a sudden attack of nostalgia. Otherwise they don't have any place in an all-time ODI XI for Pakistan, when compared to some gems of recent years.
Why do we need to force Zaheer to open when we have Majid Khan there??? He has a decent average of 37+ and he was an aggressive player with good technique.
Zaheer on the other hand never opened in ODI’s and averaged even better at 4 and 5…he opened in TESTS and averaged 6.75 in 4 innings…again he performed better in middle order than even number 3. So Zaheer shouldn’t open:-)
Well, Youhana cannot misout. This is a selectional dilema.
The one option is to drop Razzaq, pick Afridi (he does open), and then drop someone for Yoyo. He ave 41 in ODI cricket. Frankly, he's our best ODI bat.
Asif Iqbal did not get to play many (10) one day matches, if he had been given a chance Iam sure his averages wud hv been far better than many of the current lot who hv the advantage of playing 100+ odi’s. Asif was a brilliant fielder, master batsman, useful swing bowler and an exceptional captain respected by all (incl that crazee sarfaraz nawaz). He probably is the only captain who retired with grace and honor.
Asif Iqbal’s ODI record (played a total of 10matches): Batting average of 55.00. Took 16wickets for an avg of 23.62 and econ rate of 3.83. If Don Bradman or clyde Walcott did not play any one day matches does that exclude them from being considered for the best one day outfit? Doesntmake sense, fact is players sud be judged on their talent and ability to deliver.
^ okay, calm down. He will still be known as youhana.
I agree with decent team making two changes. Majid Khan for Razzaq and Mushtaq Mohammad for Malik. Malik was a class batsmen but it was partnership between Miandad and Mushtaq that invented 'take four singles of four ball rather than hit one boundary, block other three'.
They have played very little ODI (10 and 23) which stops me from including them into the eleven. Being a good TEST player doesn’t mean that guy is a great ODI player too. THats my openion and of course we all can not agree on one team anyway
What is so hard to believe? they have earned their places in ODI at least, dont you think so?
