MA Shaa Allah , beautiful news , congratulations , may the girls become the noor of your eyes and hearts and live a long , healthy , happy lives , Ameen ..
I do need help and advice actually. That’s why I can’t back to gs but instead of asking for help I announced the babies birth lol.
I was wondering about head shape for the babies. Pakistanis say make it flat at the back and the gorey say make it round. What shape is better for the child and how is it done? This is not about their looks, I just don’t want them to have misshapen or have neck problems later in life
I used two things for their heads…one was the memory foam head shaper things and the other was a “rai ka takiya”…an old hyderabadi thing we do in my family. My khala made me little pillows stuffed with rai/mustard seeds. I would lay them on that and then I would be sure to turn the direction of their faces/heads while they were laying asleep to assure that even pressure was given. My gora pediatrician in the NICU told me that trick and about the memory foam. I did that with all three of my boys, and alhamdullilah, their heads are fine lol.
In my personal opinion, I am totally against the desi totkas of flat heads and using saucers on the head and fulana dhamaka…but the memory foam and rai ka takya worked well for me. I had one twin born vaginally, and one through c section…and since they were both so tiny, born well under 4 lbs, they looked pretty alien like in the beginning lol. Once I got them home from the NICU though, I started straight away with these two things.
I used a pillow with rice/wheat in for munchkin… but for bubbity i got this head shaping pillow from babyco.. it looks almost like those neck support things people use for travel, only a minature verison of it… not sure if they still stock them, but they helped.
And like khatti, I am not in favour of the flat head look. It looks funny to me.. both my kids Mashallah have nice rounded heads.. and they look normal. Both of their heads came out a bit longish, but the pillows (both types) fixed them within weeks… I also found, that keeping a beanie on really helped :k: but that was just me
Mashallah Mashallah, such a good news. I am sooooo happy for you. My second IVF cycle is going to start in April and I hope I have same happy outcome this time around…
I didn’t use any takiya or anything special to shape my sons head. All I would do was to move his head from one side to the other when he was sleeping. So if I thought he’d been on his left side for too long I’d move his head to the right side and so on. Since my son was born vaginally he was a cone head and I really think my method worked for us.
Also, when he was around 5 months I noticed he had a very flat head. Lots of tummy time and sitting time fixed that problem I personally don’t like flat heads and don’t get the desi obsession with it. In my opinion he has a perfectly shaped head today alhamdulilah! Even his ped commented on it
Yea, I don’t understand the whole flat head thing either, I think it looks weird
And Wendy is right, turning the head from one side to the other is the best way to ensure evenness…if any of boys ever decide to sport the bald look, they’ll thank me
I am overjoyed to hear the news, I remember reading your struggles and praying for you!!! Soo soo happy for you! May Allah bless your daughters with the best of both worlds!! Would lovee to see pics!!
