All about losing weight.

Re: All about losing weight.

Yup, definitely not permanent. So just a side note to all that's been said in this thread - be patient when losing weight, don't rush it. All these contestants most likely put it back on after the show in no time.

Re: All about losing weight.

The figures mentioned are quiet impossible to achieve to be honest. At least not for us to do it in that time frame, normal people cannot afford to or have the ability to have full time chefs, trainers, nutritionists/dietitians and can go on training for 3-4 hours a day with allegedly 5 to 15lbs of clothing on them. That too in one single go. Even if the show was real, I cannot list the endless negative effects there would be due to that much training on the participants healths, and with this I’d be curious to know about their current health conditions.

I’d also be curious to know about the huge amounts of loose skin, what did they do about it. Makeup, Surgery? To further add, naturally its just not possible for us humans to gain more than 2-3 pounds of lean muscle in a month. So worth asking, where did all that steel cut lean muscle come from?

The whole concept sounds shady to say the least. Theres so many things that could have taken place prior the weigh-in that the viewers don’t get to see. Heavy clothes for one, injecting water weight for another.

The following are good reads on the authenticity of the show.

Re: All about losing weight.

what works for severely obese people (the 250lbs + crowd) won't work for normal otherwise healthy individuals who may be 10-15-20 lbs over their goal weight and/or might just want to tone up....so yes, they can lose a huge amount of weight in a single week as opposed to someone of a normal weight....most of it is just water weight any ways.

Re: All about losing weight.

I had a baby two and a half months ago thru c-section.I have lost around 15 pounds but i have the belly that makes me look pregnant still. Any tips on how to loose this pooch will be appreciated.I tried the belly bandit didnt work very well for me

Re: All about losing weight.

Salam. 1st and foremost a big congrats on the baby!

The loose skin or as most call it 'The mothers apron' has pretty much always been a cause of concern for Mothers that go through C section. Good news though, you can successfully tighten up the belly area through proper diet and exercise within a matter of months. But for that to take place, you need to be mentally prepared, focused throughout, exercise properly and get the right diet. On top of that avoid/ignore those who tell you Surgery is the only way to get rid of that Pouch. Absolute rubbish. Surgery is just an easy way out and nothing else. If others have done it, so can you.

Diet: Cut out on sweetened liquids, avoid junk, try and get most of your calories through vegetables and fruits. Keep your macros in check too, get ample amounts of protein. In fact, If you go through the 1st post, you will get the idea on what to consume and what to avoid. However, If you feel unclear/confused about something/anything, please ask away without hesitating.

Exercise: Since your main goal will be to tone/even/flatten out the tummy area, you would want to do exercises that focus specifically on training it. Running is a great way to shoo that stubborn fat away for one, 12 to 15 miles in a week will do absolute wonders. However, If you've had or have knee complaints, you could skip running and consider jogging slowly or even walk, focus more on ab crunches/rollers, squats, treadmill, leg lifts, calf raises etc. Anything that makes the concerned area sweat, do it. Do short but intense workouts. It is however strongly recommended to consult with your Obstetrician/Gynecologist prior starting any of the workouts.

Other helpful tips: Try and apply moisturizer everyday, when you lose weight, a moisturizer helps maintain the elasticity while your body shrinks. Drink lots of water. Use a multivitamin that contains Vitamins (A,C,E) they tend to help with the elasticity as well.

** Finally, please no surgeries. **

Congrats once again though. :)

Re: All about losing weight.

One of the top reasons of loose skin is this. Technically, when you start losing more than three pounds of weight each week, It will make the skin lose its elasticity faster and eventually make it difficult for it to shrink/spring back into shape, regardless if you're severely obese or average.

End result: Chunks of loose skin. Therefore, one should always plan on losing around 2 to 3 pounds a week, no more. This is not only better for your skin, but it is much likely for the weight to stay off longer.

Re: All about losing weight.

cycling of the 30 mins is helpful to burn the 340 calories
Dancing is helpful to burn the 300 calories just in 15 mins
Rope skipping is also helpful to burn the calories of the fat body.

Re: All about losing weight.

Thanks for this thread Exodus. Its very useful.

Almost all of the things OP has mentioned are key things to losing & maintaining weight. For all those Gupshupers who are lost ( I know I was 3 weeks back) as to how to lose weight. Imply things mentioned in this thread.

Exodus since you seem to know so much on weight loss & exercise, I do have a question for you.

I have heard that if we do crunches or any ab work out before losing our belly fat, a thick layer of muscles forms between the actual fat & our stomach making it harder for us to lose the fat. Meaning muscles before fat. Is this true?

I have been doing cardio as much as I can but would love to be able to tone my body in the process ( I do strength training every now & then with very little or no weights) or should I weight till I have lost at least 70% of the fat first & THEN do my crunches or any other strength training?

Thanks in advance.

All those talking about the Biggest Loser on TV Read this link. Its an eye opener.

Thanks for the comments.

Re: All about losing weight.

According to popular belief, not true. Our body consists of the bone, muscle, fascia (face), fat and skin being the very last layer. Worth adding, Muscle is heavier than Fat, as much as 3 times dense. A pound of feathers (fat) is guaranteed to look bigger than a pound of wood (Muscle) in volume, and hence fat takes up much more space than muscle. A weight scale may not drop pounds even when you lose considerable amounts of fat, and this is why/where measuring inches becomes equally important.

Combine strength training with Cardio. Cardiovascular exercises along with strength/weight exercises will result in much more faster and effective fat loss. Cardio increases muscle metabolism but for a very short time. Strength/Weight training will raise your muscle metabolism during and after your workout and for much much longer. Muscle metabolism rate increase = Scorches calories. As much as 25% additional calories that hate you.

Thank you. :)

Re: All about losing weight.

Thank you much.

But I guess I am still confused regarding the question I asked?

Re: All about losing weight.

Which one?

You should not wait If i read that correct and start substituting cardio exercises with strength training, I say substitute because I read somewhere how it may be difficult for you to incorporate both at the same given time. With me, strength training helps immensely in fat loss than cardio.

If I may ask, what is your current workout routine like?

Re: All about losing weight.

My current work out routine is

2x a week Zumba. That's 60 minutes of hard core cardio.
4x a week Billy Blanks Junior's Cardio videos. 60 minutes per session.

And for strength training I do a mix of modified push ups, crunches, squats, jumping jacks, bicep curls, wall push ups and some other beginners strength training exercises. Most of the time since I do these at home I do them without weights though.

My question was regarding crunches. Where some one once told me lose all the belly fat first & then tone your abs. Because supposedly if you tighten up your muscles before losing the fat. The muscle layer sticks between the fat layer & you are unable to lose that belly fat.

Re: All about losing weight.

^ Hey Bint, my cousin is a fitness and nutrition consultant and I asked hm for wrkout advice as well...he advised against doing crunches, because it can make the waist wider and stomach thicker...personally I would stick to what you're doing and if you really want to do something for the abs, do the plank...it's a good core workout.

Re: All about losing weight.

Thanks Sara. That's some information. I didn't know crunches were supposed to make your waist wider. Planks are so tough. It will probably take me months to try them. But I'll keep that in mind.

Re: All about losing weight.

^ why months? you're supposed to build up the time resistence little by little...so just do 10 seconds at a time, and gradually increase it...

Re: All about losing weight.

^Just getting in that positions seems so intimidating :D
