^ and your point is???
I had no idea. Cool.
It is “sikandar-e-Azam” in Urdu
^ Oh, I see :) ...and this naturally translates into Alex The Great.
Alexander was a sick man after the loss in India. Hence Indians started calling him sick andher (inside) which in due course became sikander. Some other scholar say it is 'under' and not andher but we'll know which for sure.
^
haha, very funny
???Really- Thats different to my info-
I had heard that when Alexander got to Punjab, he was challenged to this Kubbaddi match by the local Jatts. He was so impressed with the game that he converted to an early form of Sikhism and changed his name to “Sukhwinder Singh Chahaal” which became Sikander later. He even started to wear a turban and used to wear a dhoti and kurta. In fact the legend has it that in the battle where he was hit by an arrow, he insisted on wearing his prized dhoti against his army’s advice. as he had no protection in his lower region, an arrow hit him in the goolies.
The rest is history.
haha!!! ppl ppl we're sliding away from the actual discussion here :D

Tommy that is a twisted version. The actual story is that after some time people realised that although his mighty army has conquered most of the civilised world, Alex him self was quite thick. As the word thick was only used for sardars, people started saying that Alexandar ander say sikh hay, hence Sikh-ander.
Now I have set the record straight.
^ jeez folks, let's please right to stay on topic here.
