By Hanif Khalid
The UAE government has announced to construct a hospital in Muzaffarabad with its own funds within three months. The construction work will start next month and this medical complex will start functioning in February 2006. The construction will be quake proof. The hospital in the Azad Jummu Kashmir capital will have 100 to 200 beds. The consultation, engineering, architectural and other spadework for the construction has been started on war footings. On behalf of the United Arab Emirates President, UAE Envoy Dr Ali Mohammad Al-Shamshi made this announcement on Friday while talking to The News. He further said that the hospital will be equipped with operation theatres, laboratories and houses for the doctors and nurses. “Our president, who treat Pakistan as his second home, has decided to equip this hospital with the state of the art medical machinery and equipment,” the envoy said.
He said while the international community is planning to start the construction work within six months in Pakistan, my government has decided to start constructing houses for the devastated people of 11 districts of NWFP and Azad Kashmir and buildings for educational institutions next month. For the construction work we have earmarked $100 million. Dr Shamshi went on to say that Inshaullah the UAE would be the first country to handover free homes to the affected people through the government of Pakistan.
