Africa is dying of Capitalism, not AIDS

So, by your logic,

All Muslims are good and pure and should not need condoms. That means that all of those dying are presumably Christians and their heathen ways. So what presicely is your gripe?

Muslim or other, people are people, and we are all sinners. The easiest disease to cure is one that never occurs. So out of one side of your mouth you blame capitalism for deaths, but you reject the most effective means of preventive out of the other side of the mouth.

Try reading the post again, no one said muslims are white knights and purer than pure those where from your mouth.

the post was about societies that promote care free attitudes.

Have another go!

Its quite funny seeing these capitalist trying to justify not giving medicine to dying people.

Would they steal from the blind too!

Let's face some facts. In Africa Tuberculosis and Malaria were leading killers until AIDS came along. The drugs for the prevention and cure of these two diseases have been widely avalailable for more 40 years and are virtually free. Yet these diseases persist and kill Millions each year worldwide. Please explain how AIDS is different?

someone conveniently forgot to answer to this part of OG's post so though I would bring it up again..:)

and again..Aids did not spread in africa due to any issues with drug availability, but due to lack of health education and awareness etc.

HEalth Awareness and education

You have health awareness and education in the States yet you still get huge number of Aids Victims that line don't wash.

You get somethign like a new Aids victim every 12 minutes in the States are you giving them books or Medicine!

Capitalists are the cause for several issues here, the most important being preventing basic medicines reaching the victims especially in Africa for the simple issue which capitalist will sell there own mothers for MONEY.

It's quite insulting for you to brush all westerners (capitalists) in this manner. Why don't you read the intelligent posts in this thread that address this issue before re-posting (yet again) your standard diatribe of "capitalism is evil".

What you fail to mention is that capitalists are also the cause for the development of these basic medicines. Throwing medicines on an uneducated and uncaring society will not change anything as OG mentioned with the medicines currently available for malaria and TB. In any event, capitalism is not an altruistic system that requires people to feed, clothe or cure the world. The failed socialist and religous governments of the past couldn't do it either.

Malaria is an excellent example of an epidemic poorly managed. 90% of world malaria deaths occur in sub-saharan Africa. 90% are children. 3000 children die PER DAY. In most of the world malaria was eradicated 50 years ago.

Today the simple use of mosquito nets at night would reduce deaths 50%, yet something this simple is widely ignored. (Certainly mosquito nets are not like condoms, opposed by relgious zealots.) Additionally because of misuse of anti-malaria medicications, drug resistant strains of Malaria are appearing. (Does this sound like what Fraudia and I have been saying about AIDS mutations?)

The parallels here are remarkable. There has been a total breakdown of healthcare delivery in Africa, particularly in rural areas. Countries have been wracked by constant wars, and poor and corrupt political leadership. Simple and affordable prevention techniques exist that would allieviate suffering , but ignorance and abject poverty have made Africa the only continent where life expectancies are declining.

See the following link for more information:

Malaria Backround

Now tell me this in more than three cheap sentences laced with anti-capitalist rhetoric, How are the “Capitalists”, the cause of the Malaria crisis? No drugs are being withheld! No one is making a profit on death! Yet the exact same situation exists in the same reagion with a different disease! Either answer these questions or stop posting threads you know nothing about!

is one in 3 americans infected with HIV? thats the stat noted in this thread about sub saharan africa.

Now why is it that the spreading of the disease has slowed down..was it because there is some drug that cures someone's HIV? or is it because the infected ppl are not infecting more people?

so that line not only washes..it thoroughly cleanses...

You get somethign like a new Aids victim every 12 minutes in the States are you giving them books or Medicine!

They need both..and condoms. They need to be educated so they do not go and infect other people and spread it further. They need supplies like syringes and condoms so they dont spread it to others thru sharing needles etc.

The medicines do not reverse HIV, the infected person does not get rid of it, they can still pass it on. Why is there a problem with awareness and education..it has worked in other countries, and with govt support it can work in sub saharan africa as well.

I believe you missed the post by CM which noted what Merck is doing..how about you read that.

you still have not answered a few questions.

1) if the spread if disease can be avoided, is that important or not?
2) do you believe that these drugs are a cure and they just get rid of HIV like aspirin gets rid of headaches? is there a cure on the market?
3) without proper compliance with drug protocol, the effectiveness of the drug is compromised and then you have patients which cant be helped with current drugs. Is compliance important, and how can it be enforced, whose responsibility is it, how can it be done.
4) if the new drugs are rendered useless due to non compliance and virus mutation, what can be used to treat the patiemts with the new strains? club soda??? what about the patients who could then not be treated because they are infected with a mutated version for which there is no treatment to help the patient.

Now let’s see, do we need AIDS drugs, or perhaps 11 Palaces for the Royal wives? Hmmmm, tough decision in a country where the AIDS rate is only 39%…

King asks poor Swazis to pay for 11 palaces for wives

He did not get a private jet, but King Mswati III has found another way to drain Swaziland’s treasury: a palace for each of his 11 wives.
Sub-saharan Africa’s last absolute monarch has reportedly asked his government for £8m to redecorate three royal palaces and build 11 new ones - a big sum for a tiny country reeling from drought, food shortages and HIV/Aids.

Most of the wives share a single palace and occupy guest houses, but before he marries again the king has decided to give each spouse her own home.

The Times of Swaziland said the 35-year-old monarch had asked the cabinet and parliament to approve funding. News agencies quoted an unnamed palace source as confirming the story.

If the projects go ahead it will be a comeback of sorts for a king who was unexpectedly forced by protests last year to abandon plans to buy a £24m executive jet.

He recently bought a fleet of BMWs costing £800,000 for his relatives.

A former British protectorate of 1.1 million people, wedged between South Africa and Mozambique, Swaziland is peaceful and has a relatively good infrastructure. But the HIV rate of 39% is the world’s second highest after Botswana. With many peasants too sick to farm, the food shortage and grinding poverty have been compounded by one of the worst droughts in memory. The UN’s World Food Programme, which feeds a quarter of the population, said harvests would decline for a fifth successive year.

The king has resisted pressure for greater political plurality and triggered one controversy after another, including the alleged abduction of an 18-year-old schoolgirl, Zena Mahlangu, to be his ninth bride.

Yet the influence of opposition groups is limited: the cabinet and parliament are packed with the king’s relatives and judges have been sacked en masse for allegedly challenging his authority.

He remains popular with many Swazis, however, who see him as a virile father-figure. His late father, King Sobhuza II, amassed 99 wives and sired more than 200 children.

what has a despotic Monarch got to do with capitalists preventing Patents of Aids medicines being produced and distributed in poorer countries.

This guy wants 11 palaces, how many mansions or ferraris do the Drug company owners want they are both corrupt and without morals.

Also this does not obsolve the fact capitalist multinationals are preventing medicines being produced cheaply in poorer countries in fact they are seeking far greater sums in profits than 11 palaces.
