Well, I can hardly contain my amusement. The first draft of the new Afghanistan constitution creates Afghanistan as, “The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan”.
Oh my gosh, have we chosen the wrong puppet regime? Why would the US possibly allow this?
The reason of course is that the US has no problem with, “an Islamic Republic”. It is the extremeist implemetation that the US has fought against.

Afghanistan today unveiled a post-Taliban draft constitution that gives the country the official name “The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan”.
The name indicates the government’s desire to bring the country together under the banner of Islam, which is practised by the vast majority of Afghans.
However, the hardline Islamic law enforced under the former Taliban regime is not expected to be a part of Afghanistan’s future.
In a statement, the commission drawing up the constitution said: “The draft is based on Islamic principles, and recognises that no law can be contrary to the sacred religion of Islam.” It also allows for freedom of religion for other faiths
Well, if the war on Islam is disproven, there is always the old standard, "it's all about the oil"! Last I heard, the regime in Kabul as not built a single foot of pipeline. Bad puppet regime.....
Something tells me that the constitution of Afghanistan and the coming elections will not be enough for the keyboard jihadi's comfortably living in the west. They will be insisting on a hardline Sharia law, while enjoying the freedoms and opportunities protected by democracies.
UTD , that war never stoped and will never stop. It only changes its shape or form, and by the way thanks for adding another republic for your service.

You know Pakistan's constitution is also "based on Islam" and everyone knows how ridiculous it is and how "closely" it is followed, perhaps Afghanistan has learnt it from Pakistan ... to name it "Islamic" so Islamists will keep quiet and do what they want.
Anyone wonders why was the rush behind Iraq when everybody was shouting that there were no WMDs? There are two plans: short term and long term :p
Here we go again. Lets all celeberate the constitution of Afghanistan. OG and UTD, will you like to tell us if we have fulfilled our responsibilty of supplying all the money and infrastructure that we promised the Afghani people? Like the chosen1 said, Karzai only rules Kabul and part of Kabul......
OG, who told you it was about the oil, it never was about the oil. It was about "we will smoke them out and bring them to justice". "We will hunt the terrorists in every dark corner of the earth". Both of these statements have come true...no. Osama & Mullah Omar are long gone, right. World is a safer place....no

Not entirely. Just make sure you stock a pliable Muslim puppet in Kabul, preferably one who can do the balancing act of mouthing Islamic principles for convenient soundbites for al Jazeerah cameras and simultaneously runs a corrupt dictatorial regime. If contemporary examples are needed, turn to Egypt, UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, .... all are officially Islamic countries, none are truly "Islamic".
Ah yes, another "Islamic Republic". When will Muslims have enough faith in themselves that they have to tell everybody else that their country is an Islamic country. What is wrong with just "Afghanistan" or "Pakistan". Why can't we be inclusive? What are we scared of?
KABUL, Afghanistan – The government unveiled its long-awaited proposal for a new constitution Monday, opting for a strong presidential system and dropping the additional position of prime minister that had initially been proposed by a constitutional advisory commission.
President Hamid Karzai, 46, who hopes to win election next year to the post he now holds temporarily as the country’s transitional leader.
Alex Their of the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based agency that monitors Afghan developments,** said that opting for an American-style system in new democracies** “tends to promote autocracy” and that eventually Afghanistan will have to face the issue of ethnic and political power sharing.
The official draft calls for a president and single vice president to be elected, with a separate two-house legislature and judiciary. It also states that “no law can be contrary to the sacred religion of Islam” but stops short of calling for Islamic law to be implemented, as some Muslim leaders had sought!

Hopefully they will not implement the ones that call for stoning young women to death for their "moral" transgressions. Would that be so bad?

No it will be the one where murderers will go free (O.J. Simpson), where senators will have affairs and kill the woman to hide their infidelity, where President will get a BJ in the oval office , where everything related to religion will become obsolete and everything material will be vogue, where it will appear that women have equal rights but will be used as nothing more than a sex object. MV, do you want me to carry on?
Most muslim countries are already client states of the US. A name means nothing. Actions count not words and to date only 2 muslim countries have been attacked while North Korea has nuclear weapons that can reach the US. I wonder where the priorities are.
It is the extremist Islamic (as well as others) who fear the U.S. and it's way of life, freedom, and choices it gives people. These are things the majority of the world has embraced and many more are fighting to have a chance to embrace. Freedoms and choosing how one lives is not an American right but a human right. You say Islam and this can not co-exist?
