Afghanistan Independence

Re: Afghanistan Independence

Afghanistan was freed from Persian-Safavid rule in 1709 by Mirwais Hotak. Hotak Pashtuns even conquered Persia in 1722 and ruled it till 1729. But they began to lose territories to Nadir Shah afshar and lost their independence when Nadir shah conquered kandahar in 1738.
The modern Afghanistan came into being in 1747 under Ahmad Shah Abdali. After that Afghanistan has successfully maintained its independence but at the cost of losing large chunks of territories to British empire, Persia and Russian empire.
Border issues with Persia were on Herat and Sistan and three wars were fought over it. With russian empire, the armed conflict happened over territories of modren day turkmenistan in 1885 and with british empire over modern day KPK, FATA and Balochistan.
For a period ,amir abdul rehman handed over control of foreign policy of Afghanistan to the British empire, from 1880 to 1919, in exchange of monetary and military assistance. Through third anglo-afghan war 1919, Afghanistan gained control of her foreign affairs again.
