i think when she started out they said she looks liked ash. i thin she's cute in the movie tehzeeb, she did a good job acting.

I don't get it....her biological father is german but her last name is a muslim name. I don't see where it says that she had a step father. She has a very hindu first name and muslim last name.

Mirza is not necessarly a muslim name, in persian it simply mean “prince” ..
and yes she is not a muslim.. "dia " (or) “diya” simply is a kind of lamp or “light” so that does not have to do anything with any religion

I watched her first movie thinking it was Aish only to relalize it wasnt Ash in the end.
She is not bollywood material, she might have a good face but def not the one to carry roles such as Kajol or Rani

well shes was on 'jeena isi ka naam hai' on Zee TV a while back and she said she'd taken on her step fathers surname who is a muslim.

hmmm.. its a funny and “incomplete answer” Bengali?? bengali who? bengali could be a muslim , a hindu , a christian…
But who cares? if she is denying for whatever reason being “religion-less” its her problem 
religion is apersonal thing only between a person and “God” .. why bother ?

she looks so much like ash because she is an ashwarya wannabe. copies ash's style/acting/ makeup/way of talking etc etc. atleast in the beginnning of her career in movies such as tumko na bhool payenge...there were numerous article on her copying ash too.
thats one of the reasons she didnt hit big in the industry despite a perfect bolly face.

No she doesn't. She doesn't copy Ash's style at ALL. Dia has a pretty nice style kinda girly/flirty. She wears summery type dresses a lot. Ash has a totally different style in western wear and saris. I dont like it at all. Makeup: they couldn't be more different like seriously. Ash packs it on while Dia goes for the natural look. Way of talking? I never felt they were similar. Ash used to have this accent from God knows where and now its sorta britishy while Dia has a whiny very urdu type accent. and acting: all indian actresses act exactly the same.

True. I find the roles she takes on lack substance and she's normally just a show piece with the same facial expressions. One role where she did stand out was the role she played in the movie Tehzeeb. Everybody did an amazing job in that movie.
Diya Mirza is apart of those new wave actresses who all look alike ... she can be put into the same category as Celilna Jaitley, Namrata Shirodkhar, Neha, etc. etc.
