Amaaazin Lankans. :k:
century for arnold
they have a very strong team compared to pak n india, good bowlers and very good batsmen
Very well played by Sri Lanka A. I think after these 2 succesfull 300 run chases, they are the clear favorites to win the series. But I must say pakistan gave them a good challange. Afridi proved he is here to stay. He bowled better then the other bowlers and was Pakistan’s best bastmen. I wonder why Junaid Zia bowled only 5 overs, I think he must have got injured or something, and I think thats the reason why Pakistan could not hold on to the win, because Zia is the frontline bowler and seemed to be bowling well. I cant wait till the next match :k:
Ton-up Arnold steers Sri Lanka A to victory over Pakistan A
Lanka at Calcutta AFP/Deshakalyan Chowdhury
CALCUTTA (AFP) - Russel Arnold powered Sri Lanka A to a thrilling five-wicket victory over Pakistani A with an unbeaten century in a triangular one-day cricket tournament here.
The Sri Lankan captain hammered an exact 100 off 105 balls with 13 fours to help his team overtake Pakistan's total of 300 with five balls to spare in a tense finish at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka successfully chased the same target against India in the opening match on Monday, with left-handed Arnold (96 not out) playing a big role.
Arnold, who represented the national team in Test matches and one-day internationals, received valuable support from opener Shantha Kalavitigoda who scored 74 off 96 balls with one six and 10 fours.
Pakistan A skipper Shahid Afridi put his team on course for a challenging total with a brisk 47-ball 63 which contained two sixes and eight fours.
Middle-order batsmen Bilal Asad (52 not out) and Faisal Iaqbal (50) then built on their captain's knock, but their team still failed to stop Sri Lanka from posting the second successive win.
Left-arm spinner Ranga Herath was the most successful Sri Lankan bowler, finishing with 3-52 off 10 overs.
Pakistan A will meet India A in the next match on Thursday.
Brief scores:
Pakistan A: 300 in 49.5 overs (Shahid Afridi 63, Bilal Asad 52 not out, Faisal Iqbal 50, Salman Butt 29, Mohammad Hafeez 28, Ranga Herath 3-52, Nuwan Kulasekara 2-65, Tharanga Lak****ha 2-68).
Sri Lanka A: 304-5 in 49.1 overs (Russel Arnold 100 not out, Shantha Kalavitigoda 74, Jehan Mubarak 42, Naveed Nawaz 24, Shahid Afridi 2-56, Mohammad Hafeez 2-46).
Man of the match: Russel Arnold (SRI)
HOLY CRAP! How on earth Sri Lankans could win back-to-back games by chasing 300 runs? Our striker bowler Abdur Rauf got spanked and Mansoor Amjad got smashed. DAMN! This Sri Lankan team and that Russell Arnold
goddamit, he had back-to-back MoM awards.
I am surprised that Saeed Bin Nasir wasn’t given a chance to play. CHEEZ! WHAT THE HELL! Imran Nazir failed again. When will this guy learn? Good job by Bilal Asad as an all-rounder. Afridi should have given him more overs to bowl but anyway, it’s just one game.
Let’s see what happens in Pakistan vs India match. Sri Lankans have almost secured their place in the Final but what if they lose both matches to Pakistan and India? ![]()

Arnold to the rescue again

Sri Lanka A 304 for 5 (Arnold 100*, Kalavitigoda 74) beat Pakistan A 300 (Afridi 63, Bilal 52*, Faisal 50) by 5 wickets with 5 balls to spare
Scorecard
For the second time in two days, Sri Lanka A were set a 301-run target. For the second time in two days, they overhauled it with a degree of comfort, thanks to Russel Arnold, who followed his 96 not out against India A with an unbeaten 100, as the Sri Lankans eked out a fine five-wicket win against Pakistan A in the second match of the Kenstar Tournament at the Eden Gardens.
Arnold came to the party after Shahid Afridi had led Pakistan A’s effort with a blistering 47-ball 63. A target of 301 was a daunting one, but Arnold set about the task with the efficiency that had made him such a vital part of Sri Lanka’s one-day outfit. Shantha Kalavitigoda (74), the opener, and Jehan Mubarak (42), batting at No. 3, made useful contributions at the top of the order to ensure that the Sri Lankans got off to a confident start – the 100 came up in just 16.1 overs.
With a solid foundation in place, Arnold then took over, flaying the Pakistan A attack with powerful cuts and pulls. His fifty came off 63 balls, and the century took only 40 more. Partnerships of 81 with Kalavitigoda and 62 with Naveed Nawaz (24) ensured that Sri Lanka A never lost the momentum in the middle overs despite a tight spell of offspin bowling by Mohammad Hafeez, who finished with 2 for 46 from 10 overs.
Earlier, Afridi’s blitz set Pakistan A up for a mammoth total, but they lost their way somewhat in the middle. Afridi smashed three sixes and eight fours in his innings, helping the team to a hundred in a mere 12.3 overs. His dismissal slowed down the scoring rate, but at 180 for 3 in the 30th, a score in region of 320 was a distinct possibility.
However, Pakistan A then lost five wickets for 63 in the space of 13 overs, with Rangana Herath (3 for 52) doing the star turn. At 243 for 8, they were in danger of being bowled out inside 50 overs, but Bilal Asad bailed them out with an enterprising 52 not out from just 39 balls. On another day that might have been enough, but with Arnold in such awesome form, the Sri Lankans had all the answers.
The first round of matches will be completed on December 25, when India A take on Pakistan A. All three teams will play another round of matches with each other, with the top two teams then meeting in the final on December 30.
