It seems both sides desperately tried to lose the match. Pakistan won the struggle and duly lost.

CALCUTTA (AFP) - Dinesh Mongia came up with a superb all-round performance as India A defeated Pakistan A by four wickets to qualify for the triangular tournament final here.

Mongia grabbed two crucial wickets and scored an unbeaten 48 as the home side overcame a mid-innings slump in a rain-reduced match to set up a final clash with Sri Lanka A.

It was the third win for the Indians while the Sri Lankans made it through with two wins in the double-league format.

The Shahid Afridi-led Pakistani side finished with just one win in four matches.

Left-handed Mongia played a responsible knock under pressure, hitting three fours and a six to see his team through to the target of 98 in the 25 overs per side game.

For Pakistan, paceman Junaid Zia produced an inspired spell in which he took three crucial wickets including those of experienced Sanjay Bangar and left-hander Rohan Gavaskar off successful deliveries.

Bangar was bowled while Gavaskar was trapped leg-before with a fullish delivery as the Pakistan side raised hopes of an upset win.

India fell from 64-2 to 69-6 but Mongia kept his calm to see the team through to safety.

He had earlier in the day taken the important wickets of Mohammad Hafeez and Faisal Iqbal with his left-arm spin as Pakistan were restricted to 97 in 22.2 overs.

Seamer Bangar and leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule took three and two wickets, respectively.

Brief scores: Pakistan A 97 in 22.2 overs (Bilal Asad 23, Sanjay Bangar 3-23, Dinesh Mongia 2-19, Sairaj Bahutule 2-9) lost to India A 99-6 in 22.2 overs (Dinesh Mongia 48 not out, Junaid Zia 3-12).

Man of the match: Dinesh Mongia (India A).

Final: India A v Sri Lanka A on December 30 (Tuesday).

First 3 matches of the tournament, teams scored 300+ runs i.e 600 runs in a day. Then team score fell to between 200-250. And the last game, teams couldn't score 100 runs. All matches were played on the same pitch.

That makes me go.......Whhaaaaaaaaaaa?

Disappointment yet there was some satisfication with Navid Latif and Bilal Asad's performance. Shahid Afridi let us down, and so did Imran Nazir and Mohammad Hafeez. There was trouble from the openers down the middle order. Junaid Zia, well the guy got beaten. Aamir Sohail shouldn't have changed the Pakistan 'A' which tourned successuly in Sri Lanka and South Africa. Oh well, he's known for pungaa bazi. Hopefully, he won't messed the squad for Jr. World Cup but then again I doubt that, too.

what is the score in final??Anyone watching DD?

^^ yes i m watching,

india A gave a target of 198
sri lanka A are 175/3 in 30.2 overs

Sri Lanka A win one-day series in India](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)

CALCUTTA, India (AFP) - Schoolboy Farveez Maharoof grabbed 4-39 as Sri Lanka A whipped India A by seven wickets in the final of the three-nation limited-overs series here.

In a one-sided match in front of some 10,000 fans at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday, the Sri Lankans shot the hosts out for 197 and then galloped past the modest target with 16.2 overs to spare.

Jehan Mubarak (61) and Prasanna Jayawardena (54) led the victory charge with a 104-run stand for the second wicket.

Both batsmen fell to off-spinner Sarandeep Singh in the space of eight runs, but skipper Russel Arnold guided the Sri Lankans home with an unbeaten 31.

Pakistan, led by discarded international Shahid Afridi, were the third team in the tournament organised by the Asian Cricket Council for the region’s second-string teams.

Afridi’s men, the first Pakistani side to visit India since Wasim Akram’s Test squad played here in early 1999, lost three of their four league matches.

Maharoof, a 17-year-old schoolboy, dismissed Indian World Cupper Sanjay Bangar for 26 and then polished off the tail with steady spin bowling.

Ranga Herath chipped in with two wickets as India A lost regular wickets after they had won the toss and elected to take first strike.

Sridharan Sriram, who replaced injured international Mohammad Kaif, was the lone Indian batsman to shine with the bat, making 65 off 81 balls.

The hosts, comfortably placed at 140-3 at one stage, surrendered the advantage by losing their last seven wickets for 57 runs.

Four members of the India A squad – Kaif, Bangar, Hemang Badani and Yuvraj Singh – will join the senior team in Australia for the limited-overs tri-series against the world champions and Zimbabwe which opens on January 9.

Well done Sri Lanka 'A'. :)

So in the last two months, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka side teams have won tournament but not on their home-soil though.

  • Pakistan won Emerging Team tournament in Sri Lanka

  • India won U-19 tournament in Pakistan.

  • Sri Lanka won Kenstar/ACF series in India.

Conclusion: Everyone's Happy. :D

So Indians managed to be good hosts and lose, and not have tongues wagging that home advantage (re: umps) gave them an easy ride.
