Does pakistani army even want foreigners in it? I do remember reading that in the sixties afghans would come in and get in as soldiers for a year or two "tour", make money and then go back home.
Not sure about army but e.g. ISI does not really expect dual nationals in its ranks too high up.
They think they are pakistanis. But they are sort of blend of indians/goras.
Stuff like that.
Why Indian?
If their parents are Pakistanis they have more Pakistani influence than Indian obviously.
And to the OP:
There's more identity confusion WITHIN Pakistan than out.
With American/British born...there is no confusion to THEM. The confusion lies with the people who want to judge or fit someone into their little boxes. They get confused when we don't fit.

This!
But again, its a judgement as well but well we cant get away from it everytime when this topic is touched.

That is the Coufused part in ABCD.
They associate them self with indians. If you must, they put them self box made by west. They think and west think they fit in box labelled "the indians." So they don't have a with out confusion future. Sorry.
I think that it depends upon the parents on how pakistani their kids turn out to be. And no, it isn't an ethnic thing since I have seen punjabsi who are indophiles and a sindhi friend in karachi who we joked that he was more indian than muhajirs.

I don't think you've been in the West long enough...or maybe you don't know that many people?
Fact of the matter is that obviously one will be influenced by the peer group (not to be confused by the Pir group :) )
with a larger number of indians in general, the interactions are higher. As are with non desi peers.
The huge issues between India and Pakistan become less relevant, the personal impact or involvement is less. sadly since that is a key factor between Pakistanis and indians and it goes away to varying degree, the context changes. You also see more marriages across national origins, so there are many families who have additions that hail from the 'other side'
Cultural aspects overlap so they may prefer indian movies, Pakistani pop music, indian snacks, Pakistani food etc.
Now...are they like people in pakistan? obviously not. They have similarities due to common background but those become less important year after year, and especially generation after generation. That is okay..its natural. This is really not a unique phenomenon. Does anyone really think that a 3rd generation italian american is the same as italians in italy today? extend that to any group and its the same.
Frankly, I am not like a Pakistani who grew up in Pakistan, different experiences, different influences and different view of the world, I overlap, more with some, less with others, just like they would overlap more with some and less with others among the group of Pakistani origin folks in UK and UK. This is also true for groups within Pakistan. That is okay... I would rather not be jus like someone in Pakistan, not because of an hangups but because i am comfortable with who I am and it has equipped me to navigate life, my social circles etc. That does not make me confused, I have adapted.
Diversity and variations are a source of strength as long as it does not turn into differences. I don't think anyone wants to be a Borg and be assimilated (for people suffering from geek deficiency - please google borg star trek)
