Prithvi-II missile inducted into IAF

The 250-km range Prithvi-II surface-to-surface ballistic missile has been inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF). This makes the IAF the only air force in the world with surface-to-surface ballistic missiles under its command. But the missile has left the IAF cold.
The Prithvi-II is the Air Force version of the 150-km Prithvi earlier inducted into the Indian Army.
For the IAF, which is still smarting under the missile turf war largely considered to have been won by the Army, the Prithvi-II is poor consolation.
“Operationally, Prithvi-II makes no sense, especially when the 2500 km Agni missile has been given to the Army. The IAF didn’t need a lollipop. It’s a waste of manpower and money. Let one service (Army) handle all the surface-to-surface missiles,” snorts a senior IAF officer.
The argument is that the strike aircraft outperform the Prithvi-II any day in terms of range, accuracy and weaponload, and hence, there was no such requirement for the IAF.
While the missile can carry a 500 kg warhead up to 250 km, aircraft like the SU-30 carry an eight ton weaponload over a far greater distance.
Defence sources say the Prithvi-II is meant for “training and familiarisation”. “It is to supplement strike aircraft. It has a definite role in circumstances when strike aircraft cannot fly, but one needs to keep the pressure up,” a policy planner justified.
But for the IAF, the rub is in having lost out in its perceived role as the pre-eminent strategic force. The Prithvi is not meant to carry a nuclear warhead. That role is the Agni’s, to be handled by the Army.

well I think this unknown IAF officer has no clue what he is talking about. not everything that you research on is put to use. prithvi research team has carried out various tests that will help them develop future missiles with more advancement and newer technology. apart from that, prithvi project has its own purpose. different tasks require different strategies. IAF will not use strike fighters or agni at all the times. there will be tasks specifically for prithvi 2! Its like saying why to buy a motorbike when you can buy a car and forgetting the pros n cons of both of them!! I hope u get my point.

And also, explain the purpose and the usage of STS missiles by IAF.
No AF in the world uses STF missiles besides India...

And I am not an IAF officer, so I have nothing more to explain. Also, Pakistan has STS missiles [Hatf-V (Ghauri)] as well. Care to explain why?

I meant as IAF as only airfoce with STS missiles ...
Pak has sts missiles for delivery system.... numerous of other countries do also.
But... like I said... no AF uses sts missiles besides IAF.
