And no point of bring down the caste system by inter-caste marriages. you think pucca Pandits will marry off their daughters to Dalits because the govt said so or cause they say it in the movies??
Caste-ism doesnt even exist like the way it did once. no one asks anyone's caste.
caste is seen normally when parents arrange marriages(which,as per i heard, happens in Pakistan too, marrying in one's biradri) or which getting quota in IITs/IIMs etc.
only during love-marriages, caste is over seen. my cousin married a 'lower-caste' guy, and no one of my family opposed them.
everyone wants to end the caste system, but then the very govt and dalits differentiate themselves from the rest by demanding quotas. now do you think the dalits themselves would like to remove the 'dalit' tag? many non-dalit ppl(my very own neighbours) do some gapla and get themselves recognized officially dalits to get all those facilities.
Just to update you on the ground realities … there is no legislation required for dalits hindus to marry upper caste girls, as they are free to do so … infact the goverment does promote this … an intercaste marraige gets the couple a $ 1000 " gift" from the government. This is to promote inter caste marraiges. That is the ground reality.
However this caste system is so embedded inside the psyche of the coutry that it will take some time and a lot of effort to overcome it. But India is on track as its policies are geared to overcome this.
Infact in todays India the lower castes are in better position then the blacks in US. They have better share in all spheres of life then the blacks have in US. The government provides reservation for them in all areas. Infact a lot of muslim and christian groups want to be identifed with the lower castes so that they can be entitled for this reservation.
Now i was a bit disappointed by the tone of this discussion. The talk of a “shudra army” and this talk of forcing marraige of “brahmin women” to “shudra men” … they sound very cheap. But i guess it is customary in Pakistan to marry of you daughters and sister to settle scores. In India the approach is different … first you acknowledge there is a problem and then you tackle it logically. Some of you guys need to wake up. But then i guess there is nothing much to cheer about these days. The economic condition of the coutry is out in the open. The president is spending more time in other capitals then his own … cap in hand … but that would be deviating from the topic … lets us stick to " shudra men " and " brahmin women"
I read somewhere that in reality it is according to the Hindu religion to be of some particular cast and people are content with it. This is part of Hindu faith that they should act passively regarding the cast system and if they behave properly they will move one step upward in their next life.
The topic is an internal matter of india which pakistanies have no idea about the ground realities. It has been brought up by pakistanies a number of times in this forum just for the sake of trashing hinduism and glorifying Islam by scewed reasoning.
controlled BREEDING is not the answer (for caste differences). Although you can legally bound (if legislation allows) some1 to marry some1 of some other caste, but you CAN'T bound human feelings. This will only result more unseccessful mariages, and may be even more domestic violance.
The key is EDUCATING the society & uniform distribution of resources.
Why dont you ppl, for Christ/Allah/Krishna's sake, focus on your country, and its problems???
whats the need to poke your nose at every other country's problems?
caste-system is an ugly thing. and its not gonna go away in a few years.
