Bro Changez,
Hazrat Usman was from the UMMAYA clan.
UMMAYAS were the ones that oppsed bani Hashim the most. Its a clan that even Quran has called "Shajra-e-Maloon". In the tafseer of that particular ayat, Ulemas write that Hazoor told people that he sees kaffirs jumping up and down on his chair one day.
Abu Sufiyan, the worst enemy of Islam was the father of Muawiya. His mother being HINDA. Hinda was the one who chew the heart of Hadrath Hamza (chucha of hazoor)in jang-e-Ohad. Khalid bin walid was the person who threw stone that broke hazoor's tooth. Hazoor had exiled him from makka because he was very mischevious and kept on hurting hazoor and rest of the muslims. He was from Ummaya too.
Now as soon as H.Usman became a khalifa, he blindly started giving all the important posts to people from his own clan, Ummaya.
Muawiya was made the governer of SHAAM. Khalid ibne Walid was given a very important post too. And many others.
Bro changez, all these people were not muslims. They were hypocrites. They could never see Islam rise. They had revenge in their mind. They were condemed by Quran and were disliked by prophet himself. Yet there they were ruling the muslim state.
Hazrat Osman left this world. But ummayas kept on growing since they were in power. They used Bibi Ayesha to fight with Imam Ali. They used Ayesha to get thousands of innocent muslims in their army and fought with Imam Ali.
Finally, Imam Ali left the world too and made Imam Hasan became his succesor. By now, Muawiya had became the undisputed ruler. They had no one who could stop them now.
They started making lots of false hadiths favoring them and many that could degrade Hazoor and specially Imam Ali, since he was their worst enemy. He had killed all their baap dadas and had borken their idols. They also started cursing Imam Ali and many other great sahabis in their namaaz.
Imam Hasan was poisoned by Muawiya too.
Then Muawiya departed this world and before leaving made yazeed khalifa. Yazeed then, following his father's footstep went on to kill Imam Hussein and rest of Hazoor's family.
History testifies that when Yazid was sitting in his palace and Imam Hussein's head was brought, he said "My grandfathers will be so happy for me today. I have taken a great revenge for them".
Now if some one is blind enough to call Muawiya a sahabi then what can i say......
You've got whole history infront of you. If you choose to call them sahabi then you will be answerable to that in Qiyamat.
