As it happens, i started to feel contractions on Monday. They were irregular during the day. After 6pm they were like every hour or so. Come midnight they were an hour apart but just that bit stronger so I went to sleep thinking they are too far apart to be going to the hospital. At 4am Tuesday my contractions were getting stronger, i had a bloody show and trickling waters. Classic labour signs so I called up the hospital only to be told the pains were far apart (at that time they were 20 mins apart but lasting say 15 seconds). They told me to ring in a few hours. At 8am the pains were 6 mins apart lasting just under a minute. I called again and was told, 'oh go and have a potter about in your home, have some toast and tea and when your contractions are about 2-3 minutes apart then come in.
My husband had decided not to go to work so he decided to give breakfast to my son and take him round his mums as we were expecting to be at the hospital in a few hours.
As he left, my contraction pains were being felt at the back. I decided to go upstairs and get my tens machine. As I was going up, i ended up in the bathroom. I sat on the toilet and shockingly had this urge to push.
I was so scared, home alone, visions of having baby anytime soon and awful visions of the cord being wrapped round the neck of the baby and not knowing what to do.
As I crowned whilst sitting on the loo, i heard my husband back at home. I just said ‘999’ to him and he understood that it was all gonna happen soon. He was put through immediately, and immediate advice was to get me off the loo. As he got me off, our Hina’s head was born. I was in shock horror and felt that sudden relief of pain. The next contraction and she was out. But wait… She slipped out my hand and fell on the floor. She cried. The cord snapped and the paramedics had just got in and upstairs to see what had happened. My husband cleaned out baby airways, rubbed her to keep her warm and then I was sorted to continue the third stage of labour.
I was in complete shock. My husband was too. And I bet all you guys reading this are too. It might as well have been some drama on tv!
Alhamdulillah baby Hina is well and healthy. After all that is the main thing.
