A question about foundation

Re: A question about foundation

you’re right, I think I need a lighter shade :hmmm:Do you use the NC sthg shade?

Re: A question about foundation

Yeah .. I use NC 30 which is a shade darker than my skin, it covers everything and blends really well!

Re: A question about foundation

I use NC25 :smack: I think I need to use it on its own maybe that’s why I look yellow

Re: A question about foundation

what are you gals talking about? if i'm right, AW didn't use foundation in that pic - just MSF Natural. That doesn't come in NC/NW/C shades. I'm guessing you used medium? MSF naturals don't have the yellowness that most NC foundation shades do.

Re: A question about foundation

We're talking about general foundation shades! I'm telling her NC30 is a shade darker than my skin and it doesnt make me look yellow. What I've used in the picture above .. I ve already mentioned in my post. The concealer is also in NC30, and still there are is no yellow!! I'll post a pic of me wearing the studio fix .. and I dont get any yellow!

Re: A question about foundation

I thought mdk was asking about the MAC in your pic.

MAC NC foundation is notorious for it's yellowness and oxidising. If you stuff have Studio Fix after a year, compare the bottle against a brand new SF in NC30 - it will be darker than a NC35... same thing happens on your skin after a few hours. Luckily, on a lot of people, it's not too noticeable.

Re: A question about foundation

These are with MAC studio fix fluid in NC30, started with prep+prime skin, finished with MAC select sheer/loose … also in NC30 … I rubbed a little vanilla pigment on the cheeks. I think I got lucky with the shade matching my skin ..??

I find MAC foundations very tricky but if u happen to find the perfect match, there's nothing like it.

LOTS of girls complain about MAC foundation looking different in pictures as well as turning a shade or two darker after a while..

i agree with gina....i love make up by mac...i like their eye shadows, lip sticks, lip gloss but i have discovered that their foundation is not so good..when i use to put it on than after 1 or 2 hours, my skin colour would change to darker..

gina can you tell which brand foundation is perfect for paki skin...

Re: A question about foundation

u know there are some foundations by MAC that are not so great and those are usually the thick creamy ones that come in compact like studio tech, moistureblend... as they either make you too ashy or too yellow

the ones that i find are perfect for me or my sisters are: the liquid select SPF 15 which is very sheer esp when used with a foundation brush, studio stick SPF 15 for more coverage and the mineralize SPF 15 loose powder for very light coverage or for summer
i also use NC30 and it is the perfect shade for me and my sister uses NC 35 which suits her perfectly
i will mention that i have tried many more expensive brands of foundations and it is a lot harder to get a perfect match there because they dont have such a wide range of colors...they are either too white or too yellow

I don’t think lighter than NC25 would be appropriate for asian skin unless you’re really white
try matching the foundation again against your jaw and cheeks and if it disapperars…that’s a match
if you see it then it wont work for you

I'm partial towards Bobbi Brown and Makeup Forever.. I however love MAC eye-shadows/pigments and lip-colors.

it definitely turns darker after a while, and i hate that because when i first put it on, it looks amazing. i've tried different brands but i feel MAC has the best colors for asian skin, i really wish it didn't oxidize

Re: A question about foundation

I dont get it ... what am I missing ... howcome that doesnt happen to me ...?? Infact I put it on atleast 2 hours before going out cause that's when it looks best.. whats wrong with my face??

Is it maybe cause of the primer?? Most of the time I use a shiseido primer?? Eventhough I use my MAC primer just as much ...

Re: A question about foundation

AW - it probably does, you just haven't noticed it yet.

To be honest, I used Studio Fix Fluid NC30 for two years without problems - never looked darker in real life and in pics looked lighter, if anything. But I did apply it sparingly. One day I looked in the car mirror (LOTS of natural sunlight) and saw faint orange streaks. No one else could tell (went around asking everyone that day) but I knew and it bothered me enough to change foundation.
If someone applies it a lot more heavily for more coverage, I'm sure it would end up making them look darker after a few hours. ALSO, it depends how your skin reacts with the foundation, some skin types will affect it more than others.

Re: A question about foundation

i think different people react differently so that is why you have to find something that works for you

it never turns dark for me either... on my sisters wedding i wore it around 7:30pm and we took pics until 5am and it looks perfect...never yellow...never dark
and i also use a primer but i use smashbox primer and using a primer is a must if u want your make up to last for more than 1 or 2 hours
that could be on reason? and the other important thing is to set your make-up in the end with loose power
all MUA recommend using loose powder as you end up using less product with better results and use compact powder only for touch-ups

maybe the problem was in application/blending of the foundation?

I wet my foundation brush slightly in a very light face lotion and then dip it in the foundation and use very light strokes...it blends beautifully
i dont need a lot of coverage so i use the sheer one and i apply that very sparingly

using a sponge or fingers always gives a heavier look
not to mention the studio fix fluid is for a heavier coverage than the sheer select and i think the studio fix fluid is a bit cakey on me esp since i like my foundation to look like my skin :)

which shade of bobbi brown do u use?
i tried makeup forever and the shade was good but the finishing was a bit cakey due to my dry skin

i have tried laura mercier, prescriptives, nars and none of them match as well as MAC
i have heard great things about bobbi brown but after so many bad experiences i just stick to MAC :)

Interesting stuff, I have never noticed my foundation turn darker. I can just imagine my husband lifting up my dupatta and thinking to him self this morning she was gori chitti voti and know shes turned into a Kalli boojni :hehe:

seriously though do all foundations have this affect or only MAC? Bobbi brown foundations make me brake out and was a total waste of money for me:( any other recommendations ladies?

also how many shades lighter should a bride go on her wedding day (yes shoot me I wanna be a gori chitti voti)

Re: A question about foundation

OK, here is the deal:

If your foundation colour is changing, it means that you have overactive sebaceous glands, and the secretions are reacting with some elements of your foundation (doesn’t matter which brand it is), thus oxidisation occurs, hence the changing of foundation colour.

Now to prevent this, it is important that you wear a silicone based primer underneath, and wait a couple of minutes before applying foundation on top. Finish with an ever-so-light dusting of loose powder, et violá!

BTW i read in a thread somewhere that anti chafing gel (yes ANTI CHAFING GEL) has the same ingredients in it as most primers, like smashbox, and they are a fraction of the price… anyone used it on their face then??? :faizy:
