A strong minority of nationalist wanted Vande mataram as national anthem…but instead of making it national anthem…
government declared it national song to placate those nationalists:D

strange they didn’t make an anthem in Hindi, but made it in Bengali. Seems there are elements in India, who don’t like Vande Mataram.
