Re: A failed state groping for a way back from the brink
Why are you so against the liberal middle class? Are you so anxious to see the country ruled my the military and a dictatorship?
The protests will return, how long do you and your dictator supporters think people are going to remain silent?
And this wasnt even a strategy, dictators have done this through out history, its called cracking down… It means crushing all opposition… That why he is a dictator!
Re: A failed state groping for a way back from the brink
Never has Pakistan been brought to a crisis such as that under the dictator
This has happened to many times before... Dictator comes into save country, leaves the country a mess, new govt has to clean up but cant, then a new dictator comes in to save the country again...
These Mush supporters are either to young to know this, or they dont read their history books.
Re: A failed state groping for a way back from the brink
Even though I am a Musharraf supporter, I too like people like Aitezaz Ahsan, Sherry Rahman, Javed Hashmi etc. With Nawaz Sharif's banning, and Benazir's absence, I was hoping that the more talented politicians will come to fore. Democracy in Pakistan will not be strengthened by dynasty politicians like Benazir, Bilawal or even the "Makdooms" or "Bugtis" or "Lagharis". We need more of educated middle class politicians (and no, Imran Khan with his tunnel vision and his tantrum is not the answer). And even though I am a Punjabi, I like MQM's organization and the ability of their local Politicians to run the party without Altaf Hussein.
A very good read this article was, and I wholeheartedly agree that the author has a very deep insight into Pakistan's politics and ground situation, compared to the pathetic reporting and analysis we regularly see from casual desks of Western Media.
Unfortunately, throughout our history people have been mistaking "Pakistan for Muslims" with "Pakistan for Islam" and as a result have allowed the Mullahs and the Military to play the roles they shouldn't have been. With the reach our media have developed in the past years, I was hoping to see more and better politicians take prominence, and while that has happened to some extent, the top tier of Political parties still seems void and empty.
Democracies throw up their own leadership... People arent stupid, let them decide.
One of the reasons why the parties havent chnaged, is because the system hasnt changed... Get rid of the Military, get rid of dictatorships, and allow the evolution of the democratic process and all the institutions involved..
Thats the fault of Mush, in that he doesnt allow democracy to evolve... By doing that, he ensures that the same problems will continue.. After Mush, another dictator will arive to save the country from the problems created by the last dictator.

40 years of the PPP is passing leaderships from one Bhutto to another through wills, whilst preaching democracy to the nation. Only the Bhutto-Zardari clan is to blame for this, and no one else. After all you cannot hold a head to the guns of PPP members and ask them to elect a leader - they have chosen not to use their own minds and implement democracy in the party. Only the PPP is to blame, no one else.
