microfinance banks arent necessarily an indication that the economy is great. infact they're an anti-poverty measure, and therefore imply the presence of poverty rather than indicating a vibrant economy. Grameen bank or microfinance banks in Africa have been operating for ages in some of the poorest places in the world, and under some pretty bad/corrupt governments.
