Mr. KKF… I never said that adding “AR” is appropriate.. I was referring to “Abdul” or “Abdur” which means “SLAVE OF” and taht is very different than AR which means “THE” as you implied!!

I don’t see any arabs with the names of Allah and not have Abdul infront of it.. in fact it’s desis who are very lenient about calling Rahman, Raheem, etc. and not adding Abdul in it! in fact I have never heard anyone in Pakistan not being called as Mohammad.. usually people have Mohammad as first name but middle name is one that is being used because almost everyone has Mohammad in their first name! I think that’s a matter of convienient than anything else!!!

and I have no knowledge if “some” names are okay and others are not.. that will be a question for an aalim but like I said whats the harm in being the Slave of one of the names of Allah.. it;s not an extra caution but out of love and respect?!!?!

i understand that you did NOT mean to add “UR”…i was talking in terms of legality if calling someone by his name like ReHman, RaHeem, Kareem etc is legal? if you look up at any chart displaying Allah’s 99 attributive names, you will see AL or AR added in the front that makes it unique and ONLY suited for Allah…like Ar-RaHmaan, Ar-RaHeem, Al-Baasit, Al-Ghani, Al-Quddus…etc…ReHman, RaHeem, Quddus, Ghani, Basit are NOT Allah’s names…these names become the Allah’s name when you add AR or AL in font of them.

of course, it’s up to you to call by someone by his FULL name like Abdur ReHmaan, Abdul Qadir etc but calling him just RaHeem , ReHmaan, Kareem, Ghani, Quddus is neither ILLEGAL nor it’s GUNAAH. mind you that people tend to shorten name, especially in the west, so it makes sense to KNOW what’s right and what’s NOT.**
