92 candidates to contest for 50 Senate seats

Re: 92 candidates to contest for 50 Senate seats

The PML-N has/had 4 members in the Senate - Saadia Abbasi, Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Sajid Mir from Punjab. The fourth is from NWFP you may have not counted - Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan.

Four pro-PML senators from FATA will retire on March 11, while three will continue for another six years. The PML is likely to regain the four seats of the retiring senators from FATA. The MMA, however, retained the only seat it had from the FATA.

Usually it is stated that the ‘PML’ has a total of 45 Senators - this is made up of 36 actual PML party holders, 2 from the allied PML Functional (F) of Pir Pagoro and 7 FATA tribals. But I have split them into their actual party groupings in my figures previously.

In total 56 Senators voted to support/“elect” General Musharraf in a confidence vote in January 2004, thus confirming the number which are pro-government.
