Try picturing the ceremony scene, the reverant there saying do you (frog) accept (girl) to be your lawfully wedded wife, answer: croak. 
If she kisses it, perhaps it’ll turn into a handsome prince…the Fairy Tales say so!!!

This is a centuries old “superstition” that people have not yet gotten rid of.
However it does not harm anyone and if they are happy with the outcome and their faith is intact who are we to question it ?
