Your observation is so true, and it’s very tragic the amount of speed with which Quran is read (not recited). I think it depends on the Masjid Board too, they being the employer sometimes urge the Imam to speed it up. For the last 3 days, our typical taraweeh has been about an hour and half (20 rakaat; not counting Isha before it). The Imam recited at moderate pace, finished surah baqarah in 2 nights, and 2 nawafil from the third night before starting Ale-e-Imran. I was able to hear every harff. I guess it differs from one place to next.

Is 1.5 hours typical? How does this compare to others? I’ve heard of people flocking to masaajid that finish quicker, but I feel you go for the reward of absorbing recitation. Quality over Quantity any day.

This time, I’ve opt for normal 30 days Taraveh and we had arrangement for 15 roza taraveh in portion attached to Masjid. It took 1.5 hours to Hafiz e Quran for completing 1.25 paras ( 20 rukoo). Its strange that in 15 roza portion, they finish witr before we finishe taraveh.

On third day, we have completed Surah Aal Imran (40 rukoo of Surah e Baqara and 20 rukoo of Surah e Aal e Imran). Its easy to understand words under this arrangement. You need to listen what is being read and said to you rather just hearing and catching few verses. I think speedy Qirat also deviate attention of people who are behind Hafiz e Quran.
