No Doubt MSD is a great captain for the indian team...and the board fully supports him as well which always boosts his confidence.

Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
I disagree that Dhoni is the best Indian captain. Although I didn't expect Australia to lose 4-0, wins on these phatta tracks against a clueless Aussie batting line-up must be taken with a grain of salt. It was actually Ganguly who instilled a winning mindset. Before him India were pathetic even in home tests. Dhoni's record in away series is not good. He was very defensive in England and Australia. Let's see how he does in South Africa which I believe is India's next away series. That will be his real test
Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
I would still expect this pathetic Aussie side to beat India in Australia. All I am saying is most of the present teams are strong only at home ((This has always been true (apart from the all-conquering Windies and Aussies of the past) but is esp. so the case now)). The present RSA and England are not great sides but they are probably the only two teams right now who w'd do well in alien conditions as well
Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
Australia failed the 'alien' test for sure
Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
Relieved about the victory. Siddles two 50s ans Starcs 99 showed with right technique spin can be player. Not a fan of Dhonis captaincy.
India's defeat - no whitewash - in England and Australia for a major part due to hanging on to Gambhir the fisherman, Sehwag the sure wicket, Dravidian with the porous wall, Laxman who no longer could negotiate the ball moving away.
Their (belated) replacements Murali, Shikar Dhawan, the technically sound Pujara and Kohli have strengthened India's batting. Dhonis average abroad is terrible. About 20 I think. Doesn't have the technique.
Bhuva coming along well. Ishant improving. Hopefully gives SA a fight. Fingers crossed.
GA: I'm not taking anything away from Dada, but Dhoni wins the big games and that's actually matters the most.

Agreed, overall Dhoni has done very well as captain despite his away record in tests

This is how bad India were in away tests in the 90s, a solitary win against Sri Lanka

I so love it when you and Ehsan quickly eat your words..specially EHSAN...he comes back few threads later and sneakily eats his words, but you just do it right then and there a few simple posts later..a sign of humbleness from you.
Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
I like humble pie :D
No AA, my point was Dhoni's away test record where I don't think he's better than Ganguly :) And do remember that there are no great test teams right now like there were during Ganguly's time (Australia). I think Pak will do well against SA in UAE and might even win the series. I expect SA to struggle against Ajmal & Rehman. But Pak batting remains a concern...
Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
Miandad agrees with me
Pakistan cricket legend Javed Miandad reckons the sub-standard pitch rolled out for the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series in Delhi has taken away the sheen from India’s 4-0 series victory over Australia.
*“This has to be dealt with sternly by the authorities. You cannot make a mockery of Test cricket. Remember, both teams were not playing some friendly match. *
When the wicket is uneven, it becomes unplayable and we saw that happening in the Delhi Test,” remarked Miandad, who was part of the Pakistan team which whitewashed Australia in 1982-83.
He continued: “How can you judge true performance in such a scenario? Good wickets give rise to good cricket and we didn’t get to see it in the last Te**st.”
*Sixteen wickets fell on the third day of the Test that ended in India’s favour inside three days. “The Australians simply did not have the experience to exploit the spinning conditions. *******If India were up against Pakistan on such a pitch, the result would have been different because we have a good spin attack.”
Miandad emphasised that tracks like the one at Kotla would kill the development of fast bowlers. “How do you expect to produce fast bowlers when you have such wickets? I don’t see how the Indian players will gain in confidence from performing on such tracks. What will you do when you tour countries like Australia, England and South Africa?” he asked.

Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
OOne should compare Dhonis batting record at home and abroad. Delta of 30 plus runs. Away average 20.
Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
Dhoni is a good enough batsman. HowSTAT! Player Analysis by Home / Away. batting average of 33 is not bad for a wk in away tests
I was talking about his captaincy. He was too defensive in England & Australia

Test Captaincy Record:
Ganguly: **21 wins and 13 losses from 49 games. 11wins outside India. however only 3 of those 11 wins were outside Asia. 8 losses ouside India
**Dhoni: 24 wins and 12 losses from 47 games. 5 wins outside India (3 outside Asia). 9 losses outside India
Record outside Asia. **To get an even better idea of away captaincy record, look at the results of matches in alien conditions (i.e. outside Asia and excluding Zimbabwe)
Name: Played-Won-Lost-Win/Loss ratio
Dravid: **10-3-2-1.5
**Ganguly: **17-3-7-0.42
**Dhoni: **15-3-8-0.37
Re: 4th Test: India v Australia, Delhi - Clarke miyan bohat chaalak nikley!
My pet Peeve about Dhoni is he doesn't back his players. The number of times he has sided with opposing captains - Ponting come to mind - during on field arguments involving his players is not nice.
He also sometimes deliberately slows down. Puts pressure on non striker who gets out. Then dhoni does his heroics. Which would not have been necessary if he didntcslow down in first place!
Yes his away record outside Asia is terrible
