3rd test

Re: 3rd test

It is not easy to compare players of different Era. Specially odi was evolving when batters like zaheer n majed disappear.

I rate saeed anwar as the best odi batsman for pk. Majed n zaheer wud have been great odi batsmen.

Re: 3rd test

Asif Iqbal definitely belongs in this list. He could bat very well with the tail.

Re: 3rd test

For sure, often referred to as a man of crises. Asif Iqbal, Majid Khan and Saleem Malik were other talented batsmen who played for Pakistan. Wasim Raja was another classy left hander who played some memorable knocks against the mighty Windies.
Zaheer Abbas was sheer class and elegance but for all his strengths not a man of crises unlike Asif Iqbal, Miandad, Inzi and Younis.

Re: 3rd test

Asif Iqbal could change a game within few overs. A brilliant and fast player. Majid was sheer class and very graceful, Zaheer Abbas was extremely talented and very wristy player but as you said not a man of crisis unlike the others.

They were all brilliant but having seen all of them I would rate them batting wise as follows:

Miandad
Zaheer Abbas
Majid Khan
Inzi
Younis
Sallim Malik
Asif Iqbal

Wasim Raja used to be my favourite player, what grace what flair.

Of course also amongst the oldies which I have seen I must mention Mushtaq Muhammed.

Re: 3rd test

For sheer elegance, Majid Khan was the best. He had an air of royalty about him. Though as GA would correclty point out, his footwork was not the best.

Yes, who can forget the graceful Wasim Raja. Those were the days when we couldn't watch as much cricket on TV. So reading abt his exploits, especially with the tail vs the feared West Indies fast bowlers was something special.

We were fans of Pakistan batsmen. The applause and reception they got when the came in 1978 was special.

Maybe it's nostalgia. But we don't have such characters. Such grace.

Such sportsmen. (Hated Miandad)

Re: 3rd test

Majid Khan was regal but he underachieved imo just like Wasim Raja who was another classy player. When you consider that his cousin Imran Khan who was a bowling all-rounder averaged (37.69 plus add his 362 test wickets) almost the same with the bat as him (38.92) then you have got to say that Majid did not do full justice to his talent. Should have had a career average in the mid to high 40s at least.

Re: 3rd test

Those were the days players were not much concerned about strike rate or avg. specially when u knwo that ur selection is out of question to the squad. Majed will not leave his style of batting for the sake of improved average. He will play as he likes. ( very much like sehwag or gayle ) .
Had he some danda over , he must have been more disciplined.

Re: 3rd test

This tells a whole lot of things about team Pakistan … why ??? very simple, any other team (and its fans) would back itself to score the requried from that position … but it’s only this team that will keep u on the edge of ur seat
