I have to be honest, we are a horrendous side....a seriously horrendous side...

from Farhat to ZQ batting is **** to say the least, not a single batsman was playing with a positive mind.....they are mentally so messed up....someone explain to me the logic behind taking a single in the last over with 2 balls to go and giving Ajmal the strike!

Someone explain to me sending Ajmal ahead of Akhtar.....someone give me any reason why we are persisting with Asad Shafiq and not bring back Umar Akmal...fair enough that he played some rash strokes to get out but he is miles ahead of Shafiq in technique and hitting power. This is total non sense from the captain and the coach...they could have won this game with the players they had if they properly picked them...Why is Razzaq batting so low in the order in a chase? Why not use him as an opener when the field is closed in and give him the green light to go all guns blazing. May be even drop both openers and Afrid and Razzaq go open for a chase like this...make quick fire 50-60 runs and get out...at least there is less risk of getting caught and quick boast to the chase...i am sick and tired of this leaving **** till the end..

It is not just that we have **** batting, it is also that we dont have ****
ing brains to make a team.

You couldn't have said it better...we are sitting 1000s of miles away yet can identify problems...these guys are paid professionals yet don't seem to have any tactical ideas...seriously disappointing and it's getting beyond annoying...

If not for Razzaq's brilliance in 2nd match, we'd have lost this series today 3-0 cuz of our pathetic batting approach by pathetic top order batsmen excluding Younis Khan.
Fawad Alam after playing a near heroic innings really had a mental breakdown in the last over...I really don't understand why he gave the strike to Ajmal...at the time it really ticked me off cuz as a batsman Fadi should've taken the responsibility to finish the match much like Razzaq did in 2nd ODI...but instead he opted to take a single and that sealed the game for SA...

Good innings from Alam, but in the context he should've made it count...still this guy is a 1000x times better than Farhat, Hafeez, Asad, and Misbah...he at least scores consistently, put a price on his wicket and plays the anchor role quite well...he along with Riaz today were the only bright spot in batting...

ever since Asad Shafiq's debut, many ppl have hyped him way too much...after having just one look at him in Asia Cup, I knew that he'd struggle against better opposition because he's primarily an on-side player...though he's still better compared to the 2 useless players: Farhat & Hafeez...

Umar Akmal should now be brought back in the side for remaining 2 matches given he has recovered from his injury which prevented him from playing in the 3rd ODI...drop Farhat...Make Younis Khan open with Hafeez

and I'd bring in Rehman or Gul for Ajmal because he seems to be struggling with the ball...

@ Faisal...I completely agree with your viewpoints in regards to our approach towards chasing down targets...it's really frustrating to see the same thing happen over & over again, and the captain blabbers we'll try to improve yet no visible changes are made in strategy...I'm really sick of it...

I've been saying it too...Razzaq should bat at no.3 or should just open and be told to take the attack to the opposition, and mind you, Razzaq is not a mindless slogger...he actually picks his spot and the right deliveries...if we can get 70-80 run in first 15 of PP overs while chasing targets in excess of 200 that would make it so much more easier for the middle & lower order...I just don't know why we stick to our old formula which has led us to more defeats than victories in this DECADE...hell in last 1 yr alone, v have only one won match while CHASING out of 11 (which was the 2nd ODI vs SA)...so the most recent stats even point towards a need for change in mindset and strategy...

Re: 3rd ODI PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA @ DUBAI - Nov 2, 2010

I can't believe all of you are busy in blaming players who actually played and performed, yes we didn't win true but that doesn't mean we take our knives out for the ones who were fighting out there. The real blame should lie on Hafeez, Younis, Afridi.... everyone else tried to play and fight it out. When pitch is difficult to play (as obvious from SA inning) and you are losing quick wickets and score is not a mammoth you grind out difficult balls/overs, this is what Farhat, Asad, Fawad did. Ajmal has played when needed (Test match in Eng) so he could've scored the winning runs too but that didn't happen. So lets stop blaming the players who actually played, move on to the next game.

Remember, Younis is senior most, he should've played more sensibly. I guess we are missing Yousuf.

Re: 3rd ODI PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA @ DUBAI - Nov 2, 2010

True say Captain.. farhat was slow but i dont blame him at all..

Younis and Afridi were the bigger problems.. Afridi the biggest..

It isnt Ajmals fault.. it's Fawad's immature mistake to take that single in the heat of the moment (but he batted well otherwise).. and captain.coachs fault to send Ajmal ahead of Akhtar..

Re: 3rd ODI PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA @ DUBAI - Nov 2, 2010

Easy Guys !
You should be quite use to it by now! Unless we have ‘next generation newborns teenagers here’ who are just catching up on some ancestral cricket with a kick!! Go Pakistan GO :jhanda:

Re: 3rd ODI PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA @ DUBAI - Nov 2, 2010

Captain I am not blaming anyone for the defeat just questioning the team selection and our whole strategy & approach during batting. I would take a fit Umar Akmal - true he can be reckless but he has better technique and hitting ability - over Asad Shafiq in ODI any day and both Yousuf and Gul should play. Farhat made runs today but his ultra go-slow approach also meant that the batsmen that followed him were under undue pressure to get on with it right from the start which might have contributed to their downfall as well. Pakistan traditionally have this bad habit of playing just tuk tuk in the opening overs and leaving everything till the last overs. We need to do better in the initial overs incl. first pp. No blame can be apportioned to Fawad for the defeat because he played his part with the bat. He sure made an error of judgement when he took that single on the 4th ball of the last over but he will learn from his mistakes and be better for it and the decision to send Ajmal ahead of Akhtar was another bad one IMO. And yes Younis and Afridi - well what can you say, any runs from him are a bonus - were the biggest disappointments today

Re: 3rd ODI PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA @ DUBAI - Nov 2, 2010

well, I wanted to comment on the match but now i have a bigger problem at hand...who is this jason bhai jan from "USA" who is cheering for pakistan !....thank you Uncle Sam....but i dont know....somehow I feel that this jayson is is actually from gawal-mandi of lahore....

Re: 3rd ODI PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA @ DUBAI - Nov 2, 2010

^ Reminds me of 'spearhead opening pair' Saeed and Sohail. Pakistan still in search of such a pair of righty/lefty to build a strong anchor point to a great finish.
They did it than, they can do it now ,,, but the problem and solution lays some where else

Re: 3rd ODI PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA @ DUBAI - Nov 2, 2010

Asif, "strategy and approach" can only be developed and followed (enforced) by a captain who can think and act accordingly. Afridi may be able to 'think' (we don't have any proof) but we all know that he can't act accordingly. So long as we have Afridi as captain we should never talk about strategy and approach of a chase (specially).

I would've chosen Umar Akmal 6-8 months ago when the star was rising but having seen him over the period of one year I will support dropping him for an entire series after telling him that he needs to straighten his act otherwise he will stay on sidelines. He has shown his immaturity now, he throws away his wicket, can't play the situation.

Asad Shafiq is being messed around now, one day he is opening, then he is one-down, then he is part of middle order. He is a good find, he needs to be persisted with at a particular spot, he can provide the stability we need in the batting line up alongwith Fawad Alam as rest of the team is laparay-baaz or incompetent.

Again, I don't believe anyone here is Farhat's fan but today he played a good knock. Had he played his usual game we would've cursed him for not playing according to the situation. His innings made sure that we make a game out of it as senior batsmen failed.

Sending out Ajmal vs Akhtar is no biggie in my opinion as Akhtar is not an all rounder, remember batting pitch was not an easy one so Akthar may not have been able to do anything either, we'll never know that.

Only selection I have is Younis over Yousuf, not sure if Yousuf is injured or not but if he is fit then he should play ahead of Younis.

Re: 3rd ODI PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA @ DUBAI - Nov 2, 2010

I think…in the 2nd ODI…Razzaq had a clear plan while Alam in the 3rd ODI went as he & his partnersh have to go…the difference is clear…on the other hand…Razzaq is more powerful hitter than Alam…thats why so many boundries overhead…

Well…lets bury this for now and prepare for tomorrow the 4th Novemebr,…4th ODI…and should try to win…and level the series… :jhanda:
