3G technology in Pakistan

Re: 3G technology in Pakistan

^ good points Zero_One...

from what I understand, the main potential for WiMax in the developing world is to provide a means for last mile wireless broadband access... as an alternative to other broadband solutions like cable and DSL.

In this capacity, WiMax can potentially be used as a wireless backhaul technology for other air interface mobile technologies whether 2G, 3G, or 4G. In the developing world or rural areas in some countries, where the wireline infrastructure is inadequate, WiMax can offer an alternative to the traditional copper wire (e.g. T1) line backhaul or to microwave link backhaul solutions.

So, I see WiMax in a dual role to provide broadband internet access... perhaps not in a "mobile" context as much as a "wireless" context.

LTE on the other hand, is certainly a promising standard for the air interface for mobile communication, and I think this is where most carriers around the world are going to focus their efforts for achieving 4G compliance to increase the capacity and speed of mobile telephone networks.
