If the operators keep the prices too high, only a select segment would use it which would make it impossible for the operators to recoup their costs. Reasonable prices could help them achieve this target much earlier. Before deregulation of telecoms we had telephone calls (STD) over 10 rupees per min, and now we have even international calls at 2 Rs/min. As a result we have seen explosion of the mobile market which would have given the telcos so much revenue that they couldn’t even have thought before deregulation.
