Re: 2nd Test: Sri Lanka v Pakistan at Colombo (SSC), 14 August 2014
And has Mahela made the same mistake as Inzi? He went into this match with a test average of just over 50. He failed (4) in the first innings. Unless he scores a hundred or 50 (and remains not out) in the second innings he would end up with a career average of just below 50!!
Re: 2nd Test: Sri Lanka v Pakistan at Colombo (SSC), 14 August 2014
Cric info says "bowlers made it Pakistsan's day" but I dont think so. SL already has 250+ score and I am sure they will try to reach near to 300 as much as possible. Anything over 200, I dont bet on current Pakistani batting lineup.
But its good to see Pakistani fasts bending their backs on the pitch that has not much to offer

225/5
Great rescue job by Sarfraz and Asad
Third successive fifty by Sarfraz, well played
Apart of being consistent and played solid innings without much chances, amonst team Pakistan selected for test, Sarfaraz has higher first class average than all, except Yunis and Misbah. Other thing is that, Sarfarz strike rate in last two test was higher than all Pakistani players. In this inning, Sarfarz strike rate is over 80 (something only couple of Pakistani players have even in ODI).
So, with higher average, higher strike rate, more consistent than most Pakistani ODI squad, is it not surprising that Sarfarz is not playing ODI ... just because we love provincialism, parchi, nepotism, bradarism and so on?

^^^ You cannot take Misbah one inning score as performance ... be it success of failure. There are 7 batsmen in the team and they should all contribute. What is the use of others if one want same player to perform in all matches?
Misbah test average is 48 and that speaks itself that he performs. Similarly, Misbah ODI average is 44 with strike rate of 74, shows that he performs and performs well in ODI too. Misbah first class average is above 50, that is an achievement only few Pakistani batsmen had.
I think one should throw players out who do not perform and that one can see only in their averages. Else, occasional 50 or hundreds can be made by any players and though their supporters start crowing about it, but if their average is not good than it means they perform badly (else their average would have been good).
As for batsmen: All batsmen should get selected in national test team on their first class averages ... highest average gets chance before one who has lower average. Plus:
Once a batsman get selected in national team, he should gets at least 10 innings to show his worth. In his first 10 innings his average should not be below 35 and if it is than the player should be out of team and has to come back on his first class average (should get selected if he qualify on merit, having first class average above all ... and there is place in test team).
Anyhow, after first 10 innings in test, a players average in next 10 innings should be above 40 to keep his place in team and then should continuously be above 40 to be in team as batsman.
One should know that first class average is very important aspect of getting selected in team. A player who could not perform in domestic cricket, what one can expect from such player in international cricket?
Re: 2nd Test: Sri Lanka v Pakistan at Colombo (SSC), 14 August 2014
It is disappointing to see Pakistani middle order batsmen collapse once again. Hopefully they can recover and post a challenging total and draw the series. Three more days to go let us hope for the best!
Re: 2nd Test: Sri Lanka v Pakistan at Colombo (SSC), 14 August 2014
Pak 332 all out
Sarfraz batted very well for his maiden test hundred
Still plenty of time left in this match and** Pakistan's 2nd innings bowling performance will effectively determine the outcome of the game. **Pak will not want to chase anything > 200 against Herath and co. in the 4th innings

Agreed. On the basis of his performance Sarfraz should be 1st choice wk in the ODIs as well
He has scored 344 runs in 4 tests this year (has one more innings in this test) at a very healthy average of 57.33 and SR of 70+
