Yes he used to commentate on the radio in the 60's and early 70's.
A very bad commentator he was. Would frequently cough in between balls and sometimes as the ball was getting delivered. He was such a distraction I almost got out while watching the match on my couch.
What the...is omar kureishi a geriatric? i was thinking he's young with curly hair and broad chest, the way he was dishing out advice to field well.
Omer Qureshi and Iftikhar Ahmed (Ifti) were the mile stones of English
commentary for the game of cricket in Pakistan.
Both these gentlemen were well famed in the western media as well
Ifti was little on the soft side more of a TV commentator. His commentary on tv would sound like as if the audience can not see the preceedings, “Here come Imran, over the wicket to Richard, who smashes it outside the off stump, misses it completly and the ball sails to the keeper Bari, and there was no run”..etc etc.
But Ifti had chrisma and so did Omar with his mellow tone of voice.
Since I’m not in Pakistan, I dont know who the current fav are for the commentary tv or radio, ![]()

Ashish Nehra has been named as Zaheer Khan’s replacement for the remainder of the Test series in Pakistan. Zaheer played the first Test, at Multan, but bowled only one over on the fourth day before retiring hurt with a hamstring injury in his right leg.
Nehra had been part of the Indian one-day squad, but was forced to pull out after tearing the webbing on his left hand during the second ODI.
India will almost certainly go in with three seamers in the second Test, which starts on March 5 at Lahore. With Irfan Pathan and Lakshmipathy Balaji sure to play, Agarkar and Nehra will fight it out for the third seamer’s spot.

Nehra to replace Zaheer

Ashish Nehra, who was ruled out of the one-day series against Pakistan after tearing the webbing on his left hand and injuring his left ankle, is on his way back to Pakistan.
The left-arm seamer will replace injured Baroda seamer Zaheer Khan for the second and third Tests of the three-match series.
Zaheer, who bowled just one over on the penultimate day of the first Test, which India won by an innings and 52 runs, in Multan, is suspected to have sustained a hamstring injury in his right leg.
Mohammad Kaif, who stayed back after the one-day series, will replace Sourav Ganguly, who returned to Kolkata on Thursday to treat a lower back injury.
India lead the three-Test series 1-0.

Specialist bowler.
Agarkar almost certain for XI
Ashish Nehra has joined the squad following a “specific request” from the thinktank
Lahore: Left-arm quick Ashish Nehra has been rushed as an additional player, but it’s Ajit Agarkar who is almost sure of featuring in the XI for the second Test, beginning on Monday. The Indians are ahead in the three-match series.
According to The Telegraph’s sources, it’s more or less certain that Agarkar is going to take the injured Zaheer Khan’s place even though Nehra has been sent as a ‘cover’.
Indeed, if Nehra is to be included, then Lakshmipathy Balaji will have to be dropped. After all, nobody in his senses is going to fiddle around with Irfan Pathan, who keeps reminding everybody in these parts of the young Wasim Akram — incidentally, his idol.
**
The 3-1 — with Anil Kumble the sole specialist spinner — combination won’t be changed as the Gaddafi wicket has a greenish look and the Pakistan Cricket Board has “instructed” the curator(s) not to shave the grass.
**
For now, Zaheer is staying on. However, whether he is going to continue doing so will be decided in a couple of days. “The preliminary report (of a scan) hasn’t revealed any right hamstring injury… It’s more of a muscular problem,” informed manager Prof. Ratnakar Shetty.
Nehra, it may be recalled, was in the ODI squad and would surely have been retained for the Test series but for a hand injury while fielding during the Rawalpindi game. He returned home before the ODIs got over and has come back following a “specific request” from the thinktank.
Apparently, Nehra “passed” a fitness test in Mumbai on Thursday.
Incidentally, regular captain Sourav Ganguly’s replacement (for the time being, that is) Mohammed Kaif too arrived from New Delhi on Friday evening.
Also aboard that Indian Airlines flight were the wives of stand-in captain Rahul Dravid (Vijeeta), V.V.S.Laxman (Sailaja), Agarkar (Fatima) and Murali Kartik (Shweta). Laxman’s parents have arrived as well, while Pathan’s are expected on Saturday.

The way Zaheer has performed in Paksitan, I suppose it is not a great loss, especially as Nehra is back. Play Agarkar and make my day.
India’s Zaheer to miss rest of Pakistan tour](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/040403/3/2zri.html)
LAHORE, Pakistan (AFP) - India’s injuries woes on the Pakistan tour increased after left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan was declared unfit to take part in the remaining two Tests.
Zaheer, who suffered a leg injury during the first Test in Multan, will return home on Monday after it was confirmed he would be out of action for at least two weeks.
“It is not a hamstring problem as was suspected earlier, but the doctors in Lahore and team physiotherapist Andrew Leipus decided it was a risk to play him,” manager Ratnakar Shetty said.
Zaheer is the third player in the touring squad to be sent home due to injuries.
Ashish Nehra, another left-arm seamer, who left the team following a hand injury during the preceding one-day series, was asked to return to Pakistan when Zaheer got injured.
Captain Sourav Ganguly, currently seeking treatment for back pain in his home city of Calcutta, is expected to rejoin the squad for the final Test at Rawalpindi from April 13.
One-day specialist Mohammad Kaif was added to the squad in Ganguly’s absence.
India lead 1-0 in the three-match series, having won the Multan Test by an innings and 52 runs - their maiden Test victory on Pakistan soil.
The second Test starts at the Gaddafi stadium here on Monday.

Yeah...The inclusion of Agarkar would be great news for Pak.
However, between Agarkar & Nehra, I would still prefer Agarkar...simply because (as I think Karina mentioned before) Nehra is probably the World's lousiest No. 11 batsman. On what is likely to be a green-top at Lahore, Agarkar's inclusion will further strengthen the Indian batting lineup (well atleast on paper i.e.)
and btw, it looks like Ganguly is going to be fit for the 3rd test.
Is there any need for him in the team. I think he should be made to sit out...Yuvraj is doing a great job in all departments - batting/fielding/bowling. And as far as Kaptaani is concerned...Dravid isn't bad either.
Cooling off before Battle of Lahore
Look what our players doing to chill themselves in this scorching heat .

I dont think so.They way Agarkar has bowled in last few months I think he is a very improved batsmen.Indians should have played him infirst match itself.
Its good that Imran Nazir is back, we finally have someone who could be relied upon to hold a catch.
