Re: 2nd Test, England vs Pakistan, 27th-31st July
I really hope they play Shahid Nazir in this match. He cannot be worse than Sami or can he? :p
Re: 2nd Test, England vs Pakistan, 27th-31st July
Well, at least we have started to push Sami as a benchmark when doing the comparisons. :D
With the additions of Anjum and Arshad to the benchmark table in the near future, I can imagine the competition as it will get even tougher than before. :D

Afridi injury scare for Pakistan
Shahid Afridi gave Pakistan a fresh fitness scare after he was injured in the nets at Old Trafford, just 48 hours ahead of the second Test against England.
Afridi, whose hard hitting and handy legspin makes him the premier allrounder in the Pakistan team, was struck on the upper part of his right elbow by a member of the Lancashire groundstaff. He then had ice treatment and strapping applied and didn’t bowl in the nets.
“Afridi has a bruised elbow but he should be OK in the next two days,” said Bob Woolmer, Pakistan’s coach. “It’s a hard ball game and such things often happen. He’s a tough Pathan and he’ll be OK.”
Afridi played in the drawn series opener at Lord’s, the first of a four-Test series. But missing from that match, and still sidelined by injury, are the fast bowling trio of Rana Naved-ul-Hasan - out of the tour completely with a groin problem - Shoaib Akhtar (ankle) and Mohammad Asif (elbow).
However, Pakistan hope to call upon their vice-captain, Younis Khan, when the second Test starts at Old Trafford on Thursday. He missed the Lord’s match with a knee injury, while their senior opener, Shoaib Malik, is still out with an elbow problem.
Pakistan’s plight has led to suggestions that the legspinner, Mushtaq Ahmed, currently playing for Susssex, might be recalled. But Woolmer indicated he’d be sticking by his squad, already reinforced by the call-up of uncapped seamer Samiullah Khan Niazi, batsman Taufeeq Umar and medium-pacer Rao Iftikhar Anjum.
“We have not made any decision as yet,” he said, "but after looking at the scorecards for the last five years, we think the spinners have not been that successful at Old Trafford

Re: 2nd Test, England vs Pakistan, 27th-31st July
^ How convenient, lol, I think it's all BS to save Afridi from being embarassed when they don't play him @ Old Trafford.
Re: 2nd Test, England vs Pakistan, 27th-31st July
I would even prefer Samiullah Niazi over Sami:hoonh:
There is more chance of India producing a 90 mph than Sami taking 5 wickets in a Test, it’s not that he doesn’t take wickets, he also takes all the pressure off the opposition, gives them few freebies every now and then and wastes the new ball.
Re: 2nd Test, England vs Pakistan, 27th-31st July
I think Sami will have the license to be agressive and quick in this Test, so we can expect a better show from him this time around.
Re: 2nd Test, England vs Pakistan, 27th-31st July
Nah Afridi786,his leg spin is actually more important than even his batting right now so i don't think it's BS.:)
Re: 2nd Test, England vs Pakistan, 27th-31st July
It is, so they wont have to answer to the media about it, and without insulting Afridi who came back from retirement only to be dropped.
Re: 2nd Test, England vs Pakistan, 27th-31st July
He is not seriously injured so he should be OK but if he doesn't play, we are likely to see this squad:
Butt
Farhat
Younis
Yousaf
Inzi
Iqbal
Akmal
Razzaq
Sami
Gul
Kaneria

Afridi expected to be fit before Test despite injury scare
By Khalid Hussain
MANCHESTER: Pakistan suffered a fresh injury scare when all-rounder Shahid Afridi sustained a blow on his elbow while batting in the nets here at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
“The ball hit me high on my elbow. There is some swelling and it’s a bit painful,” Afridi told this correspondent before leaving the nets.
Afridi, a key member of the Pakistan line-up because of his twin role as a useful leg-spinner and a handy batsman, was going for a pull while batting in the nets when the ball hit him, leaving the player with a bruised and swollen elbow. He seemed in pain and got some extensive ice treatment before leaving the team practice halfway through.
The injury comes just a couple of days ahead of the start of the second Test at Old Trafford from Thursday and could pose more problems for the team management that is already forced to do without several of their key players who are out of the squad because of fitness problems.
But Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer played Afridi’s injury down saying that such things are a common happening in the nets. “He was hit on the elbow and there is a bruise but he should be okay,” Woolmer said. “It’s a hard ball game, a man’s game and I am sure that Afridi is tough enough to handle it,” he added.
Woolmer said one of the reasons that he is sure about Afridi to be fine ahead of the second Test was because he is one of the tougher players in the Pakistan squad. “He (Afridi) is a very tough man. He is a Pathan and such a blow won’t get him down,” remarked Woolmer.
Woolmer did not think that the injury was serious enough to pose any problems for Afridi or Pakistan before the second Test. “There are still two more days to go to the Test match and that’s enough time for him to fully recover,” he told.
Woolmer has had his share of injury headaches on this tour, having lost speedster Shoaib Akhtar and medium pacer Rana Naved-ul-Hasan before the series began and later had to do without highly-rated medium pacer Mohammad Asif and all-rounder Shoaib Malik.
Pakistan are not the only side with injury headaches as their opponents England have been hit hard because of fitness problems to some of their leading players this summer.
But he did not agree with the idea that the current series should be defined by the prevailing injury crisis. “Injuries are now part of the game,” he said adding that he expects both Pakistan and England to manage without several of their key players during the rest of the summer.
