Re: 2nd Semi-Final: Pakistan v India at Mohali, Wed March 30
If Sachin gets out at 0 against Kenya and scores a century against Aus the next day, does Kenya's bowling attack become better than Aus's?
That's what you are saying.
Anyway, I quoted the article in jest, but there is some truth to it. The Indian bowling unit is coming together with Chawla gone, Ashwin in. The only problem is the second seamer. Munaf/Nehra/Sreesanth. I think Sreesanth will be tried, he might go for runs but he's a wicket taker. Pakistan still has a better bowling attack, but India has a MUCH better batting side. My 2 cents.
Well no one arguing about who has the better batting ..... Look at the match against SL ..... But then again we can argue this to death ..... The truth will be there to see for everyone on coming wednesday ..... And me missing the match :(
Re: 2nd Semi-Final: Pakistan v India at Mohali, Wed March 30
There will be a lot of talk about India in coming days because of Tendulkar, home ground, Semi-Final after WC '03 and match against Pakistan, so people will assume that the momentum is on their side. One thing is to be noted is that this Pakistani team in particular will be facing India with a momentum, which they did not have in WC '03.
Such games requires team with good momentum rather players because if the team is in good form, it can beat any side in the world. So, all in all, it will be another tight match.
One thing that people will miss is that in this match ALL of the pressure will be on the Indian side. Pakistani fans did not expect their team to go this far and in this fashion to begin with. The first will be Tendulkar and his ever elusive World Cup dream, India winning the World Cup, Home Ground and again match against Pakistan. I doubt the Indian players will even get a chance to be alone from the lime light and numerous questions.
Akhtar is in a form where even with his unfitness he can take wickets anytime and he has seemed to grown up from the arrogant nature and so has Afridi. If these two play like mature athletes they will make the difference.
I’m not saying this because I am a Pakistani fan, but I think this time there will be history made in Mohali. Finally, Redemption. Pakistan will win … !
Re: 2nd Semi-Final: Pakistan v India at Mohali, Wed March 30
Wow, somehow I knew this match would happen. Pakistan are going to have to show some tactical nous and make some bold decisions, as opposed to sticking to the same formula for every match, however tempting that may be. Ajmal needs to stay, and Akhtar needs to replace good for nothing Riaz. Wickets are the only thing that will slow this Indian batting line up down.
With this much time between now and the actual game, I think that will play in Pakistan's favor. The Indian propaganda machine will be at full tilt, and the hype will become intolerable in the coming days. With India as clear favorites, this should only add to the pressure on the home team. Imran Khan was hoping for an Indian victory today as soon as Pakistan had won against West Indies for precisely this reason.
As for the game itself, if our batsmen show up, inshallah we will win. The difference is that we have several batsmen capable of winning us the match, but you can't say the same for the Indian bowlers.
Re: 2nd Semi-Final: Pakistan v India at Mohali, Wed March 30
Pakistan does have good bowling but having dealt with Bret Lee today, Indian batsmen will be quite confident. The team has a good mixture batsment who can play well against spinners as well any of the pacers Pak has.
A good start will be critical Pakistan since their middle order is not that strong.
Indian middle order, while stronger than Pakistan, has to find the balance between swashbuckling boundary hits (which leads them to collapses sometimes) and the onsy twosies (which is what saves them.
But all that aside we know that if one of the spinners (on either side) finds some quirky purchase, all bets are off.
Re: 2nd Semi-Final: Pakistan v India at Mohali, Wed March 30
Pakistani bowling is much better than India, but Indian batsmen have played better bowlers than the likes of Gul, Afridi, Ajmal & Rehman. However, I don't know how many current Pak bowlers (except Afridi & Gul) have bowled to high caliber batsmen like what India has. Probably playing Akhtar because of his experience might be a good bet here.
Re: 2nd Semi-Final: Pakistan v India at Mohali, Wed March 30
Moin.ul.atiq was of same mentality except he used to claim to be Pakistani, so a Pakistani version of Arlei... and please let senses prevail instead of Arleitterism.
I miss moin. We should have never banned him. He had very entertaining posts.

can some pakistani fan explain the current pakistani bowling attack to someone like me who didn't really get to see most of the group matches? i have seen umar gul in action, and shoaib is fierce if its his day, but ajmal, rehman, etc.. what are these guys like? are they good enough to say pakistan's bowling is awesome? ( also, where is sami? :p )

Yeah but the flip side is sometimes our Pakistani batsmen can make the worst bowlers look world class :p.

Afridi, can be a bit expensive but a definite wicket taker, as evidenced by his 21 wickets in the world cup so far. Ajmal bowls a tight line and has a very handy doosra which I don't think Indians have played yet. Hafeez is a part timer in Yuvraj's mould, except he's more economical and just as crucial in providing a breakthrough. And we're forgetting Abdur Razzaq here who also chips in with vital wickets.
