Catching is mainly to blame for the outcome IMO. If Pak fielders had taken their catches, they would have been in a much better position to win this game despite the slow batting in the first innings.

if only they could have mustered more runs in so many overs they batted for, they would have had a realistic target. But given the defeatist attitude of the think tank, I dont think they would have gone on to chase even 100 in 21 overs!

I accept that, even highlighted Pakistan’s slow-scoring in posts #227 & 369.
But our catching was woeful and if we had held (90% of) our chances esp. not dropped Sanga on 56, we might have even won this game by an innings!! Hence they say catches win matches
I am under no illusion that our current batting is not more than ordinary (despite the 511/6d in the first innings). There is not a single batsman who can dominate decent bowling attacks on most days like a Viv or Gilchrist can

Misbah is overcautious and defensive for sure but it is not just him but the whole team. You really cannot develop the killer instinct if you have never been part of an attacking team or played under an aggressive or positive captain (like Imran) and Pakistan have long since stopped playing attacking cricket. (You have to go back to the early 90s). All our captains since then incl. Inzi, Malik, Younis, Yousuf and Misbah have been dull and boring

I have only seen two aggressive test captains of Pakistan Imran and Wasim .....Rest all were dull n boring

Pakistan’s run rate in that inning was better than SL’s run-rate in both innings, was Jayasuriya smoking something special?
