1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

We need to tour SA. Lets see what they or us made of.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

I am not writing a Phd thesis here…all i am saying that our batting is not exactly “bullish” even on flat tracks especially when facing quality fast bowling…and gave example of this test match…waleed called me a liar, so presented the link…what we did in second innings, third innings, 4th innings, 7th innings or 27th innings was not the topic that i was addressing…i also gavee example of srilanka where we again bundled for 100 on a flat track
http://www.espncricinfo.com/sri-lanka-v-pakistan-2012/engine/current/match/562444.html

so getting bundled for 100 or so at least once in every series on flat tracks means something!

and then i said that it is our bowling that has been saving us on those flat tracks…and clear example was pak england series, where we would have lost the series if ajmal/rehman were not coz we batted pathetically on those flat tracks for most part…that is all

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Azhar Ali played 442 balls in the 2nd innings, he got immense talent he just needs to work on it.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Reports are coming in that it was an off day - hence the Pakistani batsmen were vulnerable to balls outside the off stump.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Our batting was never really great to begin with since the beginning. We always collapsed here or there. But that doesnt mean we lacked good batsmen, They just lack consistency and i think they have great potential.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Why did they even chase the balls outside off stump is beyond my imagination. They should really work on defending their off stump only in such conditions. Even a 100 or 150 could have helped them win this.

Lets not deny the fact that the DRS was biased. They gave Misbah out for the same nick which couldnt be seen whereas DRS was in favour of the South African batsmen having the same nick.

I am with BCCI on this, there have been too many flaws, atleast with the one in RSA, Never seen a flaw in Australia vs Srilanka series.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

^ I think they contracted a severe case of Gambhir-itis during recent visit.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

sirf 1 score he kamkiya 100 se to kiya hua :@:

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

U need to focus on Aus series first ......Bhajji has again predicted whitewash for Australia and we all knew what happened when Raina predicted it against the England

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Collapse was always on the cards given our fragile, inexperienced (in SA conditions) and unpredictable batting. A lot got exposed by poor technique against quality seam bowling. Steyn was swinging (outswing) one way only. The batsmen knew what was coming but simply couldn't resist poking at it.

I thought Pak might collapse but not for < 50.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Some people say it was Heroic efforts by Misbah against England who won us the series

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Lost among this rout was the gallant batsman Extras, who put up a stiff resistance with the 5th largest score. Plans are to move him up the order.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

who said that? lol well he was skipper and led the team well but he did not do much with bat…it was our spin bowling period

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

Hafeez, Misbah and Asad , the classic examples of playing away from the body. On a pitch where there is excessive movement, it is better to get bowled or LBW than chasing a wide one and give slip cordon catching practice

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

In other news, fish futures fell sharply due to a sudden spike in supply.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

it is a case of Pakistan bashers at their best. lest they forget.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

agreed...but i think this team is sincere and hard working...so they will improve...they are not very talented unfortunately but they will surely try to apply more in coming innings...score close to 250 and our bowling will make a match out of it

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

250 looks a long way off. I knew our batting would struggle in SA but this is not what I was expecting. I was thinking of around 150/200 in the first innings.

Re: 1st Test: Pakistan v South Africa, Johannesburg, Feb 1-5, 2013

I am a well-known "sayappa" and pessimist-co on this forum.....but i think the batting will get better....and i have a technical reason....this team is horrible when the ball seams and swings around but south African wickets are more of aussie nature with a lot of bounce but less lateral swing of the pitch and if you apply yourself you can still bat...you need to be very disciplined...leave almost everything outside off and stay away from short pitch...philander will be hard to manage as his outswing is a killer and starts from middle stump...but styen and morkel can still be managed....anyway....just my 2 cents
