Re: 1st ODI: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare, Aug 27, 2013
Per posts hrre
Openers 50% strike rate.
Powerplay performance poor.
Misbah ended up with 97 strike rate. But that is just padding the stats. He needed to step it up. So the Afridis could have a go at the end. He does clog the middle. And most of the batting woes can be traced Ba k to him. Stats notwithstanding.
Need a more aggressive Captain.
Re: 1st ODI: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare, Aug 27, 2013
Like ......what the h*ll happened today? Hafeez and Misbah both have nearly 100 SRs....no one else even came close to showing a batting display worth mentioning...
Re: 1st ODI: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare, Aug 27, 2013
Let's blame the real culprits here**
Our tail is too long and we have a wicket-keeper who cannot bat. Our late middle-order just does not take enough responsibility or is inconsistent with the bat or simply not good enough.** Apart from the openers, Hafeez and Misbah there was no significant contribution from anyone down the order
244 from 170 odd for 2 after 37 overs was a pretty ordinary effort.****
Batting simply gets exposed in the longer versions of the game, ODIs and tests****
Bowling looked toothless as well

that is why i have been so vigorously defending umar akmal to keep the wickets because it gives us a much needed strategic balance...we simply have no other choice as we cannot waste one full spot on idiots like sarfraz and many others like him...
Re: 1st ODI: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare, Aug 27, 2013
^ but now Umar Akmal may not be able to play… does it mean we go back to Kamran ![]()

Is Haris Sohail a tail-ender as well?
Re: 1st ODI: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare, Aug 27, 2013
Batting effectively finishes at 6!!!
Afridi's batting is a bonus. Haris is still new to international cricket. Some people - basically those looking for scapegoats or just wanting to criticise Misbah at any cost - are even saying that Misbah should not have batted first on that pitch.
It is easy to blame the pitch or the conditions in hindsight but the fact is the surface held no terrors until Pakistan decided to self destruct. They were comfortably placed after 37 overs - 170 odd for 2. We just failed to capitalize on a solid start by losing wickets in a heap. With 8 wickets in hand you expect any international side to reach 270-280 from that position. 65 runs off the last 12.3 overs is just not good enough at this level. But that's not to say that the bowlers couldn't have done better. 244 probably should have been defendable against Zimbabwe
Re: 1st ODI: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare, Aug 27, 2013
We also won the World Cup when NS was the PM. Does he get credit for that?
Re: 1st ODI: Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Harare, Aug 27, 2013
We must give credit to the opposition. They batted better than us. The series is not over yet.

what cr*p is this…170 for 2 after 37 should have been taken to 300+…
I mean like that is what India would have done…oops..now I am going to be bashed here since I spoke about India…

In all honesty, "building a team for the future" has a built in caveat, i.e., "youngsters must be given a full chance to show their potential". With that thought, I agree with your hint that Harris and Umar Amin have to be given chances up the order. The team will lose now and then however both of them will only understand their long term role in the ODI middle order if they are given consistent middle order chances.
Another cause for concern is Naser bad form at the top. On any good side, if one openers fails to score, the other one carries the bat longer. Naser is becoming a boat anchor.
And we are missing a hard hitting Umar Akmal, who only recently regained form but is now sick or under question for fitness.
