13,000 nomination papers received across country: Kanwar Dilshad

ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission (EC) Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad Tuesday said about 13,000 candidates have filed their nomination papers across the country for 1070 seats including national assembly, provincial assemblies, reserved and special seats.

“About 12000 to 13000 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 1070 seats,” he said while talking to the local media. The Secretary EC observed that all political parties showed keen interest in filling of nomination papers. He said four former prime ministers and a former president also filed their nomination papers.

To a question he said, the Election Commission has extended last date for filing of nomination papers in Swat, Shangla, North Waziristan and Kurram Agency. However, elections in these areas would be held on the same date of January 8, he added. He said all staff of election commission belonged to judiciary as District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges have been appointed as District Returning Officers and Returning Officers respectively. Scrutiny of nomination papers would be completed in a transparent manner, while election symbols would be allotted on December 15, he said.
