Cause back in the days most just wanted to be provided for or looked after and produce offspring.. an emotional connection wasn’t seen as so important..

“Be together no matter what” should come secondary to the wellbeing of the people involved imo.. Just because couples were more likely to stay together before doesn’t necessarily mean they were happier..

While you have a point, the paradox of choice is quite interesting. We don’t realize how much structure is provided to our lives by our limitations or lack of choices.
